The Pies are going to offer Brown the captaincy is he decides to leave Brisbane.
Every year some big name is supposedly going to Collingwood but it never happens. Wishful thinking Pies. Just like the Blues thinking Pavlich is going to Carlton next year :rollin.

Most valueable player in the league by a fair distance IMO

Richmond ticks all the boxes for Jonathan Brown - Caro
« Reply #18 on: May 30, 2008, 04:00:57 AM »
Caro has us as one of 3 Vic clubs along with the Dogs and Pies to tick all the boxes as far as getting Jonathan Brown.

Is Jonathan Brown coming home?
Caroline Wilson | May 30, 2008

JONATHAN Brown is no certainty to remain at the Brisbane Lions beyond this season, with club and player at odds over the tenure of his next contract.

The price tag was placed close to $6 million over five years.
.............
If Jonathan Brown is to leave Brisbane and come back to Victoria then three key pieces have to fit into place.

Window: The team will need to be within three years of a chance at the flag.
+
Salary cap: If it can’t afford him then it’s a non-starter. Needs: He might be a superstar, but if your midfield is getting flogged then he’s probably not a priority.

RICHMOND

1. Window *
2. Salary cap *
3. Needs *
Conclusion An intriguing one. Can the Tigers get close within three years? It’s a possibility. Certainly there will be room in the cap and the needs are obvious. One to watch.

Always had the impression Brown doesn't respect us much. I get the feeling we would be the last club he would want to join.

Even so, how much would he cost at draft time? Too much I would think especially with drafts after 2008 looking dodgy because of the new teams entering the competition.

It worked for Geelong with Ottens, he was the last piece in their premiership team. I rate Brown a lot higher than Ottens since he isn't injured all the time. Are we as good as Geelong in 2005? Wouldn't have thought so. Can we afford to have no early picks this year and gamble on the state of the draft for the next few years? Wouldn't have thought so.

As exciting as it sound I think it's pass for me.

We won't be in a position to trade anything.

At the rate we're going, we're looking at a draft pick between 5-8 and we don't have any players of trade value that are outside our untouchables.

We're not at the stage in our development where Brown could be the difference between a flag or 5-8 position on the ladder. I also see him as a risk because he is injury prone.
And you may not think I care for you

Getting Fevola would be like getting Cousins or Kerr.  Too much trouble, too much risk.  Not suited to the culture growing at our club  and especially not suited around our kids.  Let them be someone else's problem, we don't need them.

Agreed 100%.  We have some young options comming though so we dont need them. Let them bring down some other club and eat up thier cap room. Its all good for us that way. Maybe Collingwood will be convinced its close enough and can buy a flag. It would screw itself up for the next 5 years or more, wouldn't that be good.
