Getting Fevola would be like getting Cousins or Kerr.  Too much trouble, too much risk.  Not suited to the culture growing at our club  and especially not suited around our kids.  Let them be someone else's problem, we don't need them.

Agreed 100%.  We have some young options comming though so we dont need them. Let them bring down some other club and eat up thier cap room. Its all good for us that way. Maybe Collingwood will be convinced its close enough and can buy a flag. It would screw itself up for the next 5 years or more, wouldn't that be good.

great to know there are others living under a rock :lol :thumbsup

Weren't not in a position to be trading away first round picks (probably at least cost our second pick too) for players as good as they are in their late 20s. Fev will be 28 next year and Brown 27 and offering 4-5 year long contracts at that age is highly risky.

The only thing that makes me nervous is Miller seems to always want to pick someone up during trade week. This year more than any we should be trying to get more picks not giving them away  :P. we are still a few years away from being a decent side. Remember this year despite a dream run injury-wise for a change we have only won 3 games and all against bottom 8 sides. One star player in his late 20s won't bridge the gap to a premiership.

Caro said Richmond is interested in Jonathan Brown
« Reply #32 on: August 03, 2008, 12:35:43 PM »
Caro just said on 3aw that she reckons we're interested in getting Jonathan Brown and believes Brown isn't happy at Brisbane. Even with Miller gone the current admin would still be interested. Walls reckons Brown is asking for a 5 year deal because the Lions will reject it and that will give him an out.

Brown in demand but still Lion-hearted
Caroline Wilson | August 3, 2008

It also resulted in several clubs seeking on-field leadership and brilliance intensify their interest in Brown. Some players truly are big enough to change teams.

Richmond is another club with more than a passing interest in Brown in this, the last uncompromised draft for some years. And with Matthew Richardson nearing the end of his brilliant career at a club still searching for extroverted leadership, there is no reason why he would not be worth the risk of a five-year plunge.

There is no doubt Brown and the MCG have a way of creating a symphony on those rare but usually big occasions when the two combine.

And here's another thing. This might mean nothing at all, but when Richmond played Carlton at the 'G at the end of June, Brown was sitting in the stands among the crowd.

He's 27 and wants a 5-year deal. Too risky. The club should stick with the draft and develop it's own champions rather than going for another quick fix. Geelong showed last night that we are still a long long way away. We need more than one player to add the class we still need.

not risky, he is in his prime, since when is 27 old. we have enough young kids, at this rate we will be rebuilding for another 25 years.

so sick of how many feel the draft is the only answer every year. there is no j brown in this draft or the next or the one after. give him 5 yrs let him play til 32 and we will win at least 2 flags

we are young and too small, rreally need a leader and tough guy like brown

Yep we need size but we need more than one player with size who'll be turning 30 just as our cubs start hitting their prime. We are nowhere near yet a flag and we still need more young class coming through to set us up for the next decade and this draft has plenty of good KPPs anyway.

He's under an injury cloud every week!

That's risky to me.

It was probably said in jest but tonight on 3aw when Russell said it was strange Brown hasn't re-signed, Caro quipped "well he may end up a Tiger Dwayne". Russell said "oh" to which Caro replied "you never know".

Brisbane have offered Brown a 3-year deal at $2.5million according to the Australian so any other club would need to top that by some margin too to get their hands on Brown.

Caro's still linking us with Brown

Given that at least two other Melbourne-based clubs, Collingwood and Richmond, have shown interest in Brown — with the Magpies having already unofficially tabled a complex five-year deal to the 26-year-old

The Swans did it with Lockett. Played 98 games for 462 goals and really made them extremely competitive. I'm pretty sure they signed him for 5 years. He was also 29 when he signed up with them. There are plenty of parallels to take out of this. Swans had a young up and coming team with lockett leading the way for them. Both Lockett and Brown are almost identical in the way they play the game. Taking all this into account, I would say go for it! The benefits for our club would well and truly outweigh any negatives.  :thumbsup
