Tiger coach vulnerable: Miller
Tony Jones | September 7, 2008
DUMPED Richmond football director Greg Miller said he had "extreme concerns" for the welfare of coach Terry Wallace, with whom he remains a close ally.
Miller fears Wallace's tenure at Richmond is now more vulnerable than ever. "It's going to be difficult for him going into the season without harmony at the top," Miller told a luncheon at the North Ringwood Football Club during the week.
Miller was alluding to what many perceive as a strained relationship between Wallace and Richmond president Gary March.
The Tigers' boss has publicly stated that the senior coaching role won't be reviewed until next June.
But the Richmond board will meet on Tuesday night where the coaching issue is expected to be raised. So, too, will a progress report on the search for Miller's replacement.
It's understood a second round of interviews was conducted last week.
Miller believed the man he appointed to replace Danny Frawley will have a better idea about his future at the club when the AFL releases the 2009 fixture in the middle of next month.
"Terry will be praying for a favourable draw," Miller said.
Wallace, who is contracted until the end of next season, declined to comment when contacted by The Sunday Age, honouring a pact he and March made not to speak publicly about the coaching situation.
The Tigers finished ninth this season, equalling their best ladder performance in Wallace's four-year reign.
While expressing interest in the AFL's West Sydney expansion, Miller, who helped architect South Melbourne's move north, said he was in no hurry to find a job.
Instead, he's planning an around-Australia holiday with his family.
