First Pick Must Play Round One
« on: August 24, 2009, 10:44:47 PM »
For a few years now I have been saying all along that regardless of who we pick in the draft that player must be able and capable of pulling the RFC jumper on come round 1.

We have to pick a player that is free from injury and body wise sized enough to come straight in. I think to date Deledio is the only first round player that we have selected who has played round one and please let me know if I got that wrong.

Cotchin, Reiwoldt, and a few others have either been underdeveloped or injured before the start of the season. Is it me or do other clubs manage their first round picks better than us? I mean have a look at Selwood for the Cats.

our development is shocking. i saw a lot of Hawthorn's first year players break our weak tackles.

we need to get bigger bodies! it is not hard to see that!

Agree 100%, need to get rid of the Polo, JON type players IMO, he may pull and early round pick for us but he will never get any bigger.

As they say on Footy Classified ...

BAD CALL

Whoever our number 1 pick is the play round 1 2010 because they deserve to, not to make supporters feel better

Are you saying that if whoever it is playes terrible all the pre-season, they should be a walk up start for round 1  ???

"Oh yes I am a dreamer, I still see us flying high!"

I agree, you pick players on their abilty to play many seasons, not round 1! I understand the frustrations of a slowly developing list but to smash a kid in round 1 when he is not ready will end him!

Best available kid who will have the best AFL career
Taking someone who can impact immediately is short sighted and foolish

If we get Butcher he'll need a year on a Stewie Dew diet before he's ready.

No, I am saying that at pick 3 they should be good enough, fit enough and have the body to play round one, not be small bodied, unfit, carrying injuries etc... we can not afford to pick a player carrying baggage that is what I am saying.

Further to my last post, how many more freaking "developing" players do we need that never amount to anything, Patto, JON, Putt, Hughes give me a break.

We need a Rich, Zeibal, Hill etc.. look at Rich, he is better than most 5 year players, that is the player we need not another 10 year project player who will be ready in 5 years have 2 good years and play like crap for the last 3 years.

No more project players, get it right with the first pick we have.

From the early choices this year I think Scully, Trengove, Morabito are ready to play.

Well either one of those would be great then.

There is a good chance that Scully and Trengove will be Demons.

Morabito has question marks over his kicking.

Very short sighted view
Don't take a project player with an early pick I agree with, but if Kid A will be better than Kid B in 3 years then you take Kid A
