VFL Tigers back in business as pre-season gets underway

Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris is excited by the talent on his list ahead of the 2023 season.

VFL pre-season commenced last week, and the Tigers wasted no time as they kicked things off with a two-kilometre time trial followed by a session on the track.

"I feel like we really placed a great base last year down with some really talented players, who the majority of which have signed on for this season," Morris said ahead of his second season at the helm.

"So, we're very lucky to have so many guys that are invested in not only making themselves better but those around them better."

It was a mix of fresh and familiar faces down at Punt Road, the team having welcomed back former VFL Tiger Garrett McDonagh after a year on Essendon's AFL list, as well as some new players.

"We've got some really great talent that have come on board, Garrett back from Essendon and Mutaz El Nour across from the Northern Bullants," Morris said.

"As well as plenty of local talent that we feel have AFL traits and we can make them into better players that hopefully we can utilise in the future.

"Most players just want to get the very best most out of themselves and we've got plenty of driven young players who want to do that."

Apart from Gibcus and Graham imo the most likely vfl team of just RFC listed players.

FB: Young 196/92  23/0 - Nyuon 197/93  22/1 -  Mansell 180/78  22/13
HB: Smith 180/79  18/0 - Gibcus 196/87  19/18 - Brown 186/77  19/0

C: Banks 187/0  19/0 - Ross 187/87  22/44 -  Ralphsmith 186/??  21/19
R: Soldo  204/107  26/49  - Graham 181/82  25/97  - Dow 182/79  21/13

HF: Clarke 180/77  19/3 - Bauer 192/85  21/0 -  Castagna 182/82  26/134
FF: Colina 213/111  23/0 - Ryan 206/104  22/1 -  Campbell 182/73  18/0

INT: Green 179/75  18/0 - xxxxx - xxxxx - xxxxx - xxxxx.

Age breakdown
18 -  3
19 -  4
20 -  0
21 -  3
22 -  4
23 -  2
24 -  0
25 -  1
26 -  2

Just 4 players with more than 20 afl games. Soldo, Graham, Ross, Castagna. Ask yourself what that means when the seniors cop  injuries.
Not a lot of experiened depth and the reserves will quickly run out of experienced afl players to guide them.
Just 68 games between the remaining players at an average of just 4.5 games a player.

It lacks big bodied mids even with Ross and if you like Graham. Its devoid of genuine key forwards.
