Brisbane ruckman Archie Smith has made the decision to depart the football club.

The 26-year-old has requested a trade after struggling to break into the Lions’ best 22.

Smith has played 16 career games for the Lions since joining the club in 2014. He did not feature at AFL level in 2021, stuck behind Oscar McInerney.

Clubs across the competition are in need of ruck depth, including the likes of Gold Coast, GWS, North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.

He lived with an old school mate of mine in Stratty before he was drafted. When he did his knee, the club contacted another mate of mine to help him rehab because they were worried he wouldn't be very diligent.

Gold Coast Suns are keen on Mitch Wallis but don't have a lot of cash to splash. Where will he end up?

Mitch Cleary says we should offer Tarrant two years (North have a one-year deal on the table).

Also reckons we'll get Talia.

As revealed by the Herald Sun this month, Daniel Talia is a strong chance to secure a list spot at the Tigers.

Summary from last night's Tiger71 podcast:

- We're not giving up pick 7 as we have a young gun midfielder in mind that we want with that pick. It's a midfield draft and we want to fix our midfield with this draft.

- We're going to try to bundle our later picks to move up the draft trying to get another high-ish pick.

- Still in the play with Cerra and he still hasn't nominated a club yet. It's 50/50. We're just not giving up pick 7 for him. We're willing to part with our Geelong pick #15 or a future first. Melbourne are no chance. T71 thinks Cerra will go to Carlton although they are in a state (no coach, off-field shambles). His mate though is still bullish.

- CCJ a lock to Gold Coast. We will get a reasonably high pick or a player in return. Not Ainsworth or Brodie so don't worry.

- Chol is a funny one. Players want him to stay. But we'll give him our blessing to go. Thinks Mabs to Essendon.

- Wallis still in play.

- Narkle 100% is coming. For one of our third rounders.

- No truth in the Tarrant & Rayner rumours.

- Heard nothing about Talia. If we wanted an old key defender we would've kept Astbury for one more year.

- Tom Green more likely next year.

- Wouldn't be surprised if Pickett ends up back in WA.

- Parker coming back after the WAFL finals and will be with us again next year.

- Caddy staying. Not being traded on.

How reliable is this source, generally?

Personally don't rate him at all...regarded as some kind of guru by the most of Big Footy's Richmond board but the only "scoops" he does get right are usually common knowledge already....comes across to me as a bit of a fast talking b.s. artist on the podcast... :shh

OK. Cheers.

As for who could be added to Richmond’s list, SEN reported Crows free agent Daniel Talia and off-contract Cats midfielder Quinton Narkle had drawn interest from the Tigers.

SEN reporter Sam Edmund said there was “a pretty good chance” Talia, who wasn’t offered another contract by the Crows after his injury-plagued 2021 season, signs at Richmond as a delisted free agent after the retirements of David Astbury and Bachar Houli.

Talia, who turns 30 next month, can join the Tigers for no trade cost given he is available as a delisted free agent.

Edmund said there wasn’t a lot of rival club interest in Narkle, but added Richmond “comes up every time” as the club that’s a chance to land him.

Trade exclusive

In a trade shock I’m told Giant Jeremy Finlayson has done a medical with Port Adelaide.

NARKLE POISED TO REMAIN WITH GEELONG

Quinton Narkle is poised to stay at Geelong, despite another season of speculation over his playing future.

But while rival clubs have enquired about Narkle, his manager Ralph Carr told SEN.com.au his client was likely to stay at GMHBA Stadium.

“To be totally transparent, we’re working through a deal (to stay). If we get the deal done, great, if we can’t get the deal done, he might go,” Carr said.

“But at this point I’m hopeful he’s going to stay and that we can get the right deal across the line.”

Carr, of RCM, said suggestions Narkle could move to Richmond had no basis.

“It’s never been anything but positive with the Cats from the day I started managing Quinton,” Carr said.

“They’ve been terrific, the Cats.”

The flag contender that needs Tom Mitchell most

Consider the potential homes if Tom Mitchell did want to find a new home to help Hawthorn secure another early draft pick to add to picks five, 21 and 24.

North Melbourne, Adelaide and Collingwood are rebuilding and aren’t interested.

GWS, Geelong, West Coast, St Kilda, Essendon, Sydney, the Bulldogs, Geelong and Brisbane don’t need him.

Richmond isn’t interested, Gold Coast probably needs a Tom Mitchell type but will go with Touk Miller, Matt Rowell, Brayden Fiorini and co and will spend its cash on a key forward if it can find one.

Carlton is looking elsewhere, Melbourne also doesn’t need him.

It leaves only Port Adelaide as a club that is absolutely screaming out for a six-clearance-a-week midfielder to rebound after Saturday night’s gut-wrenching loss.
