Good decision.

His harsh critics have rocks in their heads IMO

Good decision, poor execution. No need to give him 2 years.
He coached poorly in year 1, he bounced nicely last season but right now another poor year and we are stuck.

Right now, the club owes the coaches and the playing list no more than an extra year. We have given them all a unique opportunity but sometimes in life, it’s nice to live on the edge and the comfort of 3 years simply won’t do that.

I am increasingly concerned at the clubs inertia when making decisions - a heap of internal promotions and now this. Even the drafting - the last 2 picks were apparently rated higher by us internally than all of the external rankings - across multiple sites and sources.

I personally don’t think he has what it takes and that norf game late in the season was my exhibit A.
In 2026, we turned up our toes too often - both on field and tactically in the coaches box - to be comfortable we are 100% on the right track to give 3 more years as coach.

I personally don’t think that our list is that young - it is lopsided but we got enough games out of Taranto, Hopper, Broad, Vlastuin, Nank, Kmac all played plenty of footy to help the message from the coach on field. Balta, Lynch and Prestia all played a dozen or so games so enough to impact as team leaders.

Balta and Lynch were black marks on his resume. Both cost us and his credibility dearly. That stuff continues to happen next year, we get belted like we have last 2 seasons and we finish on 2-3 wins with a % of 75% or lower and this decision will start to really smell badly.

Huge gamble and for me, 2026 is a huge fork in the road for the club - beyond just this appointment.

Remember, Yze came to us off the back of a 10 1/2 game season and a 94%
Since then, he has guided us to 2 and 5 wins and a 63% and 66% in percentage.

Not sure that warrants a 5 year term.

Industry standard is at least 3 years.

So we're just arguing about the 1 vs 2 year extension.

I guess if he's a total failure we will cut him early, but I don't agree about his coaching performances - he appears to be the right man for the job and that's more important than performing immediately.

Have you hired many people for jobs? Genuine question, no judgement etc. I've hired dozens, if not over a hundred, and that last point is really important.

Yze inks Richmond extension

Adem Yze has put pen to paper on a new contract at Richmond.

Richmond is delighted to announce that senior coach Adem Yze has committed to the Club for a further two years, taking his contract through to the end of the 2028 season.

Yze is two years into his tenure at Richmond and has overseen a period of rejuvenation and the emergence of young talent.

The experienced coach has built meaningful connections within the playing list and the broader football program, ensuring his message is delivered with clarity and enabling him to fully utilise his outstanding game knowledge and tactical acumen.

Yze blooded nine AFL debutants last season and in the process won an extra three games and saw a seven per cent decrease in scores against and an improvement in time in front.

Richmond CEO Shane Dunne said the Club’s Board and Administration had great confidence in the direction Yze had the playing group heading towards.

Interesting.. you're right he isn't Hardwick

But IIRC during and at the end of 2016 quite a few people wanted Hardwick sacked

I am on record as saying he is the right coach for where we are at and the type of coach we need.

2 years is IMHO the right call.

Agreed.

The whole point is that Yze has a group that he can grow with as well, like Dimma did. Don’t think there was a supporter who dimma to stay on after 2016.

I think Yze is cuddly and happy and supportive but once expectations start changing I think we will see a different side of him, that might even start in 2026.
He’s done exactly what’s required so far so let’s see how he can develop with this group

Couple points
First season he was given the reigns of the side to much Dimma influence and even Benny admitted at the time which I found puzzling why not.

Dimma was on verge of being sacked it only turned when the club beefed up the footy department like Balme and brought in great tactically coaches like Blake, McRae and Rutten. Dimma then changes hos coaching.

Yze inherited a mess of list in decline and poor decisions on trades and giving away picks and lack of talent at the club. This is a full rebuild.
