Included among the game-high 35 disposals that Dusty racked up against the Eagles were an AFL career-high 13 inside-50s and a season-high 27 kicks. He also had a massive, season-high 818 metres gained, six clearances, four tackles, eight score involvements and kicked a vital goal.

And, it’s well worth noting that since Martin’s outstanding 2017 Brownlow Medal year, the Tigers have won 25 games and lost only two, when he’s cracked the 30-disposal mark.

Richmond assistant coach Adam Kingsley provides Richmond Media with an insight into Dustin Martin's form this year.

Ranked No. 1 at Richmond for inside 50s and centre clearance

“The most impressive thing for us is not only does he clear the ball himself but he creates clearances through his movement and his organisation in there, which has been the most pleasing aspect for me. We know he’s a great clearance player and he can be really damaging with those clearances, but to be able to bring Dion Prestia, Jack Graham, Jack Ross and Shane Edwards into the clearance game as well, is really important for us as a whole midfield.”

What he works on at training

“Mainly defensively, in and around the contest. He’s usually very good at it, but at times, given the speed and the effort he exerts, he can stand and watch a little bit. All players do that, particularly though the midfield. It’s a work in progress but we’re pretty comfortable with where he sits.”

Choco: How Dusty overcame mental fragility

Glenn McFarlane and Jon Ralph
Herald Sun

Mark Williams couldn't be prouder of Dustin Martin's evolution on and off the field, thrilled a player he helped mentor continues to prove his critics and doubters wrong.

Williams says his part in the Richmond star’s transformation has provided great personal satisfaction as Martin has successfully worked through his mental health issues to become one of footy’s most dominant players.

Williams worked closely with Martin in his early AFL years during his time as a development coach with Richmond.

But he says Martin’s growth as a person in that time has helped make him the player he is today — one of the game’s most admired figures.

“The (Martin) journey (has been great) ... to sit on the bench when he come off with all the insecurities and anxiety about stuff, and to be able to lead him on and help him along the way (has been satisfying),” Williams told the Sacked Podcast.

“I am so proud of how far he has come.

“I remember when my youngest son (Louis) was at Caulfield Grammar and we decided to help Dustin in talking to the Year 9 (students) about his journey.

“Dustin had never talked to anyone in his life. We put a presentation together with slides. The headmaster said ‘I’m worried he is going to swear in front of the kids’.

“They wrote back (after the presentation) and said ‘this was terrific, he can come every year and talk to the students’.”

One of the game’s best kicks, Martin has been a strong advertisement for the Sherrin Precision ball, which Williams created and designed to assist players of all ages and sizes in honing their kicking skills.

The leather version of the Sherrin Precision is now being used by nine AFL clubs, with advocates including Martin and four-time premiership player Shaun Burgoyne.

“I’m a Phys-Ed teacher and I have seen, for years, parents, coaches and teachers struggle with how to teach players how to kick, so I invented this ball,” he said.

“It’s got a big sweet spot on the end of it and it has a spin line that gives immediate feedback.

“There are also 15 one or two-minute videos (with drills).

“My heart and soul is about development, my heart and soul is seeing the struggles of people and finding a solution.

“I had Shaun Burgoyne doing this kicking when he was 18.

“I had all the Giants players ... I have photos and videos of the Richmond players doing it.”

Williams and his family maintain a strong relationship with Martin, despite the fact he hasn't been at Richmond since the end of the 2016 season.

“I look forward to the friendship continuing for many years to come,” he said.

AFL star Dustin Martin has a case of the sads at fashion event (Daily Mail)

AFL star Dustin Martin has a case of the sads at fashion event

By Wayne Flower In Melbourne
Daily Mail
22 Aug 2019

Fans lined up for hours to get a moment of happiness with their idol.

Some kids had been there for up to three hours in advance.

Four minutes before AFL Brownlow medallist Dustin Martin arrived, the crowd was warned he was coming and that he had an hour to spare.

There's no doubt Dustin Martin is popular - not just because he's a superstar who transcends the various football codes in Australia - but because he's seen as a real man of the people.

There are countless reports of Martin selflessly giving up his spare time - without publicity - to visit sick kids in hospital or take time out to inspire young footy players.

But this wasn't the Martin out doing the rounds of Melbourne on Wednesday to promote his latest fashion range for underwear giant Bonds.

He looked anything but pleased to be the centre of attention on Wednesday.

On the field, Martin is a beacon of confidence.

The footy ground is clearly where the Tiger's champion is meant to shine.

And shine he does.

Whether it was the television cameras situated in the Bonds shop in Melbourne Central, or the crowd itself, Dusty seemed a bit ... dusty.

The waiting media was told Martin would meet and greet the fans and pose for pictures with them before giving a few minutes to answer some questions from reporters.

Martin has been an 'ambassador' for Bonds for a few years now so he's surely accustomed to the drill.

To be fair, none of the fans who queued up to meet Dusty would have much to complain about.

He signed posters, he signed jumpers and he cracked smiles for photos.

What more could have they asked for?

Some pleasant banter? Perhaps.

Watching Dusty meet his fans on Wednesday was like watching a teenage boyfriend meeting his girlfriend's dad.

He looked uncomfortable. Annoyed. Hurried. Anxious.

Who knows what is going on in the footballer's life?

Certainly none of the reporters who had lobbed into the shop to help him push his line of clothing.

The spiel goes that Martin has co-designed his first street wear inspired range of tees, hoodies, cap and beanie, reflecting his 'unique sense of style'.

But the AFL champ is hardly Jack Nicholson.

There was no list of questions he could and could not be asked.

Martin told a Channel 10 reporter he had 'always been into fashion'.

He 'had a bit of fun' with it, he said - deadpan.

Post footy, Martin reckons he 'definitely' wanted to remain involved in the fashion business.

He spoke of his favourite label and his 'joy' at being involved with Bonds.

Stung with a final question, Martin revealed his favourite item was in fact the very hoodie he was wearing to the Bonds event.

As the camera dipped down, Martin was blind-sided by another question.

'What does your girlfriend think of the gear?'.

You may think it's not an unusual question to ask a bloke who is pushing a line of clothing.

In March, it was reported Martin was dating model Chontelle Berryman.

It was a well-placed rumour that both Martin and Berryman shot down in flames.

'Sorry?' Martin asked before giving a death stare that Clint Eastwood would have approved of.

'No comment?' the reporter asked.

With that, the towering champ's protecting angel stepped into defend the po-faced hero.

'Don't do that,' Dusty's manager Ralph Carr said, before giving the reporter a shove in the back.

Carr is a high-profile celebrity manager who could pass as a double for Joe Pesci's character from Goodfellas.

The reporter, of which was this very scribe, bit back and the mop-headed agent took a step back and denied he had shoved anyone.

But shove he did.

As Martin's worshippers continued to flood into the store, I left.

Martin had more hands to shake and more smiles to force over at another shop.

And he was in a rush. Or so it seemed.

Politician in the making: Dustin Martin takes hold of a toddler while pushing his hoodies at Bonds' Melbourne Central shop. He did not like a question about what his girlfriend thought of the gear

Journo’s dust-up over Dusty’s ‘girlfriend’

News Corp
22 Aug 2019

A reporter has accused Dustin Martin’s manager of shoving him in the back when he asked the AFL star about the model he is rumoured to be dating

The Daily Mail’s Wayne Flower says the Richmond midfielder’s manager Ralph Carr objected to him asking “What does your girlfriend think of the gear?” he was promoting at Bonds Melbourne Central shop this week.

“You may think it’s not an unusual question to ask a bloke who is pushing a line of clothing.

In March, it was reported Martin was dating model Chontelle Berryman,” Flower wrote. “It was a well-placed rumour that both Martin and Berryman shot down in flames.”

But after Martin only offered “Sorry?” in response, with a “a death stare that Clint Eastwood would have approved of”, Flower said “the towering champ’s protecting angel stepped in”.

“Don’t do that,” Carr reportedly said, before “giving the reporter a shove in the back”.

“Carr is a high-profile celebrity manager who could pass as a double for Joe Pesci’s character from Goodfellas,” Flower wrote. “(The) mop-headed agent took a step back and denied he had shoved anyone. But shove he did.”

Flower was also critical of Martin’s appearance while he posed for photographs with fans, describing him as “dusty”.

“Watching Dusty meet his fans on Wednesday was like watching a teenage boyfriend meeting his girlfriend’s dad,” Flower wrote. “He looked uncomfortable. Annoyed. Hurried. Anxious.

Who knows what is going on in the footballer’s life?”

The report contrasts with Martin’s recent resurgence on the field where he’s arguably resumed his mantle as the AFL’s best player in recent weeks.

Martin has elevated his form to a level similar to 2017, when he polled record votes to claim the Brownlow Medal.

Martin, who is ineligible for this year’s award after serving a suspension, had 35 disposals, 13 inside-50s and a goal against the Eagles on the weekend. “I thought he started to turn the game for us, started to get some really important possession,” Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said.

From a Sydney food blogger to 'Mrs M': Inside the VERY private dating life of AFL superstar Dustin Martin and why he prefers interstate romances (just don't ask him about it)

Now we know the real reason why AFL champion Dustin Martin was upset about being asked whether his girlfriend liked his new fashion clothing range.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal the Brownlow Medallist and Richmond Tigers hero has only recently broken up with glamorous Sydney food blogger and physiotherapist, Tania Acitelli.

Friends say the pair had been dating since December  – the latest in a string of beautiful women that has caught the champ’s attention.

Martin has previously been linked to Phoebe Carpenter, who once dated rugby league star Mitch Pearce.

She was referred to by other WAGs in social posts as  'Mrs M'.

Pictures of Martin relaxing at a backyard party and chillling out at lunch with friends give a rare glimpse inside the elite footballer's private world.

And it would appear that Martin is keen to keep his personal life as far away from footy mad Melbourne as possible.

'Dustin likes interstate romances,' one source said.

At the launch of his new Bonds range on Tuesday, Martin was asked by Daily Mail Australia  'what his girlfriend thought of the new gear'.

Instead of laughing the question off, Martin gave the reporter a 'death stare' before his manager stepped in.

'This is the real reason he was confused by (the) girlfriend question,' the source said.

'Tania came down to Melbourne and stayed with Dustin the weekend he was suspended from the AFL and she was the reason he didn't go to visit his dad,' it was claimed.

Martin received a one-match suspension in round three and was fined $1500 over an off-the-ball strike on his GWS opponent Adam Kennedy. During the same match he was caught flipping the bird and making a snorting gesture.

'He took Tania that weekend to former teammate Tommy Hislop's daughter's first birthday. After his GWS game debacle he stayed at Tania’s apartment in Sydney that she shares with former Big Brother contestant, Lisa Clark.'

Photos obtained by DMA show a relaxed Martin at Hislop's party.

Ms Acitelli is pictured at the party alongside Martin.

The attractive blogger, who posts about her food exploits using a saucy Instagram handle, is also a successful physio at Pro Health Physio in Lane Cove, Sydney.

She was fully booked on Friday, but was seen heading back from a quick lunch break just before 12.30.

The part-time food blogger was wearing grey trousers with a white shirt, covered by a puffer jacket bearing the logo of her workplace.

She was carrying a burger and had her brow furrowed as she spoke to a friend on the phone.

When approached by Daily Mail Australia, Ms Acitelli appeared shocked before politely declining to comment.

She has a little over 30,000 followers on Instagram, including Sydney Roosters star and captain, Jake Friend, and other prominent sports and media identities, including Martin.

'Dustin is very full-on about his private life,' the source said.

Martin's manager Ralph Carr did not respond to a series of questions about the footballer's dating life.

'It is our firm policy that neither we or Dustin make comment on his private life,' he said.

Martin is also believed to have previously dated Phoebe Carpenter, who is also the ex-girlfriend of Newcastle Knights halfback, Mitchell Pearce.

When Martin split with her, other WAGS took to Instagram saying they 'miss our little Phoebe'.

It was a rumour that both Martin and Berryman shot down in flames.

If social media posts are anything to go by, Ms Carpenter and Martin were indeed smitten for at least a while.

In one post, a friend at a Tigers match refers to her as 'Mrs M'.

Martin was back where is most comfortable on Friday  - pictured  during a Richmond training session at the Swinburne Centre in Richmond.

When facing media this week, Martin cared only to discuss his line of fashion with underwear giant Bonds.

Martin said he had 'always been into fashion'.

He 'had a bit of fun' with it, he said .

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Phoebe Carpenter for comment.
