Hardwick's response in his EOTT report to the criticism of our kick-ins....

Our kick-ins also were a concern, particularly during the last quarter.  I can assure you that we do have a specific plan with our kick-ins, but we simply went away from that.

It’s a similar sort of scenario to what I mentioned previously . . . when the heat gets turned up during a game, our guys, at the moment, are just a bit unsure of themselves.

When we take a mark from an opposition kick, inside our defensive-50 area, we’re quite efficient with our transition.  From a kick-in situation, however, we seem to think the pressure is so much greater.  Consequently, we don’t relax, and that’s when the mistakes creep in.

For a young group, composure is such an important word, but right now, when the heat’s on, our composure tends to go missing.  Again, that’s something we’ve been addressing during the week . . . trying to get the guys to remain calm and just play the game naturally.

no drawing board mate-give them psychological counselling or at very least stop captain inspiration-less from taking it.

There is never a time where he doesn't use the full clock before he kicks in.
As a supposed leader it gives others absolutely nothing to build on.

They're still bad, but getting better
Were much better last week than this week, although the same could be said about the entire game

To be fair to the player in the goalsquare looking for options, all he sees is a sea of players making no effort to provide something to kick to.
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

Problem with the kick ins is this.
The person receiving the ball is way too close to to the actual square, thus its easier to get closed down by opposition , thus turnovers occurred.
Also you cant have players running into space to receive when already there are players there, there lies the problem.
Think about it

One of the ones we stuffed up last night we got the idea right. Kicked it long to the 50m mark where Graham & Newman were in space.
Problem was Graham had the ideal sit but Newman went up as well and they fluffed it. Can't remember what the result was.

We need to kick to our talls on the 50m mark, not the oppositions

True but Graham/Vickery will get done by Hille/Ryder or any other competition rucks most of the time in a marking contest. And our defensive talls are generally spoilers who give away a few inches.

Its that bad now that if nothings on just kick it 60 towards the boundary and instruct Gus to punch it over the boundary.

Having an experienced marking target like Richo leading from the wing would make a huge difference for this team.

good post & it stumbles me why we continue to kick short. Newman is the problem.
