Richmond football manager Ross Monaghan said 19-year-old defender Jake Batchelor, who suffered slight concussion in the match against Geelong, is expected to recover for the clash with fifth-placed West Coast in Perth on August 7.

Richmond's Batchelor returns to roving roots
Frankston Weekly
26 Jul, 2011

AFL footballer Jake Batchelor returned to his junior football club, the Frankston Rovers, last Thursday to lead a coaching session.

Now with Richmond, the 19-year-old defender debuted for the Tigers in round one and has played 14 AFL matches.

The Frankston Rovers received a NAB club recognition award after Batchelor notched up 11 kicks, 11 handpasses, six marks and two tackles in a match against Essendon at the MCG in round 16. The award is a package of practical and financial resources designed to assist developing future champions which is presented after each round to the nominated player's junior football club.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said Batchelor's development has continued throughout the season.

"Jake has worked really hard to get his opportunity and we have been impressed with how composed he looks at the highest level.

"He is an outstanding character around the club."

Not sure he has the flair of Goddard but I can definitely see him becoming an effective onballer in time.

This kid has the hunger & ability to become an excellent senior footballer in time. Great pick up.

When i think Goddard, I dont think flair, moreso a disciplined footballer who does the basics very very well. A workhorse like our young Batch. Respnsibility, accountability, and can both kick. The flair moment for mine for Gods was that mark in 2010GF#1, what a gem. But an interesting perspective. Thank you  :thumbsup

A fair point. Certainly won't be at all surprised to see Batch kick on to great things.
He has what all the good ones have. Time & poise.

Anyone know the latest news on Batch's shoulder? Last I heard leaving the ground was the medicos had put the shoulder back in in the rooms. I hope there isn't any ligament damage and he won't have any lasting effects  :pray.

That's our third young defender to go down with injury this year  :scream.

No need to play him again - operation or not. Just let him work on getting strenght in his shoulder

Been a very good pick up - plenty of footy smarts that lad

Good news  :thumbsup. I agree with WP and we should put Batch in cotton wool for the rest of the season so he's right to go for preseason. There's no need to bring him back for one or two games.
