Shane Edwards - 2011 expectations?
« on: January 15, 2011, 07:49:31 PM »
Edwards has flown under the radar a touch this preseason as far as getting a mention in the media. What are your expectations for Titch this year and what would be a good year for him?

Interrupted pre season due to shoulder probs might hamper his start a little..
However I have high expectations of Eddie for this year and the improvement in his stats in 2010 would back that up.
Reckon he is about to explode. :)

2 Things, can this bloke go thru a game without;
a) Losing his feet in vital contects at least once a quarter
b) Getting rag dolled in a genuine 1-on-1 defensive play once a game

He's showing continuous improvement year on year, so hopefully he will keep on with that
Averaging over 20 disposals a year would be nice

Establish himself as an A-grader or solidify himself as a B-grader

Agree.  Absolutely can't afford to.

Showed a bit in the 2nd half of 09 and had a good year last year. I'll be happy with another good season

Anyone know what his efficiency is?
Id guess 55-60% at most.

IMO he still turns the ball over to much (i know he is not alone but he is meant to have the X factor and be a midfielder not one of our backmen).

At very least he needs to keep his current stats but get the bal in hands more. that would make me happy

Dunno what his stats are but he sets up a poo load of our attacks from half back. He gives great run and has good vision, IMO.His kicking (decision making as well)has improved since the 2nd half of 09. Personally I didn't think his kicking was bad last season.

Hes a pretty clever player, particularly around goal, kicked a cracker last year against the Crows at Gold Coast (I think).
Another year under his belt should hopefully see a even more confident, self assured player.
The off season surgery is the query, so many times a players season is curtailed by an interrupted pre season.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

He gets a lot of contested possessions so turnovers will be common. He does have an X factor though, something he can hopefully show a bit more of this year.
Yeah he does need to improve his disposal/decision making when not under immediate pressure, but as you say he's not alone there. There was an improvement pretty much accross the board in this area and again, hopefully, that will continue to improve as the game plan becomes more ingrained in the players,

Edwards pleasantly surprised me last year as I thought he was destined for the scrap heap.

If he continues to improve and become more consistent we will have a player..if not, fingers crossed he will be overtaken in the pecking order by someone who can take us to the next level

Although i like the way he plays I'm the first to admit he isn't one of my favorite players. My son and i have watched him pretty closely and it seems he turns the ball over almost 50% of the time (we even have a chuckle when he strings 2 good disposals together).
He did get better during the golden run last season so maybe he is a confidence player, and if so he might start playing better as the rest of the team does around him.
I hope so anyway as i want the tigers as a whole to succeed, not just one or two personal accolades.

I believe that everyone is entitled to one ridiculous prediction and mine is that Shane Edwards will be this years "Jack Riewoldt". I am certainly not  suggesting that young Titch will win the Coleman medal -I just have a feeling he can make the jump from "C" grader to an "A" grade midfielder.

Plus I want more comedic goals like his beauty versus Brisbane

Not much ridiculous about that matman. I too think Edwards is going to kill it this year.
