Power playing hard ball on Trengove
    AAP
    From: Herald Sun
    July 09, 2011

PORT Adelaide coach Matthew Primus has embarked on an aggressive campaign to stop emerging defender Jackson Trengove returning to Victoria.

Trengove, 20, out of contract at season's end, has several Victorian clubs pitching lucrative offers.

Richmond is believed to be the leading contender.

"He has just got a decision to make between playing for this club and getting back to his family," Primus said yesterday. "Hopefully we will be in his face about that and turn him around."

Port wanted Trengove's signature on a new deal long ago, but he has put off contract talks until near the end of the season.

Primus hinted Port could play hard ball with Trengove.

"All we can do is show Jackson what we're planning next year and the year after that and where he fits into all that," he said.

"We hope we can sign him sooner rather than later."

Port also fears Alipate Carlile could leave, with new entity Greater Western Sydney keen on luring the 24-year-old full-back.

Should we be looking at Carlile instead? I rate him as a full back and is only 24. Trengove looks like he would fall to bits if all that tape he wears falls off.  :lol  Although saying that, wouldnt be to disappointed if we got him to the club. But if we do get him it should be for a key back role not as a ruckmen. We need a 100% full time first ruck not a bits and pieces type.

Carlisle is a better option for us than Trengove is.

I think our back-line is not as bad as it seems. Rance is developing and I have faith he will be a good player, Grimes looked very impressive and did really well despite being about 10 kilos below what he needs to be. Also the club seems to really rate Astbury have faith in him. Two of those have been out injured but the sooner we get 50 games into them the better we will be. Trengove has hardly shown anything more then this boys have.

I think our priority should be a ruck-man.  We should throw everything at Hamish McIntosh or Mitch Clarke. Then go into the draft and get another gun midfielder and another developing defender.

If we as much have a sniff at Carlisle,Adolf will come in with his million dollar cheque book and put down the red carpet for GWS.

Agree Ramps but as gerks said it sounds like Carlisle is already off to GWS.

Can't find who said it, but we should definitely be keeping a very close eye on Gold Coast with the number of young rucks they have. Might be able to snare someone with some good potential relatively cheaply as there will be high competition. Need to watch:

Daniel Gorringe (was pick 10)
Tom Hickey
Tom Nicholls
Rory Thompson

Yep with a lump the size of a golfball on his wrist. On the news tonight they showed Trengove holding his arm as he came off.

Carlisle has been pathetic all year. Had more goals kicked on him than any other defender in 2010 as well. Think he just CBF with Port this year and is just waiting for the end of the season so he can pee off to GWS

A clever witty response that doesn't resort to schoolboy humour.

Well done.
