Charlie Naish is in the Northern Knights squad.

Is he actually any good
We'll find out this year. The talk was Charlie was/is the most talented of the Naish brothers. He was on the fringe of the Knights squad last year. If he's any good, he should become a starting 18 for them this year and be regularly named in their bests. The Knights' first game of the season is next weekend (March 25).

Nathan Bower's son is a train-on in our VFL squad this year.

Tom Bower
20/8/2004, 181cm, 71kg

Tom is the the son of Nathan Bower, who played 74 games for Richmond, and graduate from the Oakleigh Chargers. He's a strong runner off half-forward or on a wing, and loves taking the game on with his speed.

“Charlie Naish is the younger brother of former Richmond and West Coast midfielder Patrick Naish and the son of former Richmond and Port Adelaide wingman Chris Naish.

Charlie, who is eligible as a father-son for the Tigers, has a high footy IQ and good skills.

He played on a wing and across half-forward last year but could push into the onball brigade this season.”

-----------------------------------

A number of father-sons will also be off-limits to their tied clubs given the 100-game minimum requirement under father-son qualifications.

Harry Scott, whose father Allister played 19 games for Richmond, is a midfielder.

Former Tiger and Swan Gary Frangalas' 68-game career means his son Sam Frangalas will not be eligible as a father-son.

There are some more distant relations – Dustin Martin's cousin Jedd Denahy is back as a 19-year-old.

Nate Caddy (the nephew of retired two-time premiership Tiger Josh) shapes as possible top-10 selections after an impressive bottom-age season.

Have heard on good authority he isn’t happy with the early progress made by Kane Lamberts kid

Being played out of position , plus we need 14 tall forwards

Should the children of premiership players automatically become eligible for father-son selection?

That is what Geelong’s Isaac Smith wants after he became a premiership Cat last season.

Watson: “I respect his opinion and he’s right to express it. I like it when people bring up these things, particularly current day players, but I don’t support that.

“Because I think we’ve got it right. I think it’s the recognition of tenure at a football club. To have played 100 games means that you have been associated with a football club for a long time.

“You can come in and play three games at a football club, it could have been (Marlion) Pickett who played in that Grand Final which was his first senior game for Richmond. Premiership player and then under what Isaac is saying there, that would qualify any of his sons to be Richmond players.

“I disagree with it.”

Lyon: “Why? He’s a life member as a result of it.”

Watson: “That’s true but that is a Richmond decision that he’s a life member, that’s not an AFL decision.”

does anyone have a stat on F/S turning out to be guns? don't most of them fizzle or are underwhelming with weight of expectation? i've got recency bias with patrick naish, tom roach, andrew raines. i think it's a nice unique afl tradition but i think too much emphasis gets placed on F/S which might be driven with ablett and Silvagni type narratives

There’s a few coming through with Will Ashcroft, Sam
Darcy, the Daicos boys and of course Maurice Jnr coming through for the Tigers.
Adrian Fletcher’s son was also drafted by Brisbane and looks a likely type.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Exciting news that the club will help develop the next generation of sons and daughters of former and current players.

I have created a list of up and coming youngsters.  If anyone has any further info, please let me know?

Two f/s on the VFL list Tom Bower and Harry Broderick

Yep.

Tyson would be 16 going on 17 by now.
Leah would by 13-14.
Isabelle is 5 or 6.

Tyson was 11 back in Sept, 2017: https://www.afl.com.au/news/97504/ex-crow-tiger-chooses-his-gf-team

AFL Draft intel: All the latest news and the top 50 Coates Talent League prospects ranked after round 2

A Richmond father-son has made a strong start to the season

Chris Cavanagh and Dan Batten

Richmond father-son prospect Charlie Naish is pushing for Vic Metro selection after an impressive first two weeks of the season.

The son of former Tigers midfielder Chris, Naish recorded 20 disposals, five inside 50s, eight score involvements and three score assists for the Northern Knights in the Coates Talent League last weekend.

“His footy IQ is probably his most impressive trait,” Knights talent manager Nat Grindal said.

“He just sees and understands the game so well. Our game against the Rebels last year, the wildcard game, it was pretty tight and he ended up with the ball and he had the composure to know to slow it down and find a couple of other options. If the game ends up in someone else’s hands, the game probably wouldn’t have ended up like it did. He was one of the reasons we got over the line. He’s a good user of the ball.”

Naish is the younger brother of Patrick, a fellow Knights graduate who was drafted to Richmond under the father-son rule in 2017.

Naish is hoping to spend more time onball for the Knights this year, having primarily featured on a wing and across half-forward last year.
