Doubt we could front-load a contract anymore than Port Adelaide could.
Given their dire need for a ruckman also, would have thought our best chance to snag Maric would be via trade.
Perhaps Adelaide should have looked at upping his value a little by playing him in more than 3 out of the last 6 rounds...rather than just stating they want a 2nd round pick.

No I think the front loading option is a good option. If Port look like they will match it then perhaps we could back load it and while this may be ackward if we manage players contracts correctly, this may scare off Port and at the very least make Adelaide be a little less demanding at the trade table.

If Maric says Tigers or bust I think the PSD is the best option.  No other club seems to but in if the player commits to one club.  Bugger off Crows

I think we'll try to do a fair trade provided the Crows are reasonable. Maintaining good trading relations can come in handy in the future. Only if Adelaide starting carrying on like Essendon did with Houli last year will we resort to saying stuff 'em let's grab Maric in the PSD.

Btw we gained the compo pick plus pick 51 (MacDonald) for Tambling so the article isn't exactly correct.

Also Adelaide gave up Griffin to Freo last year for only pick 61. So they are kidding themselves based on their own trades last year to now expect a compo pick in return for Maric.

It is a done deal that he will get to Richmond, it's just the price clubs Adelaide and the Tigers are haggling over.

No, he isn't a superstar, but his Adelaide teammates rate him as a tap ruckman.

And the Tigers don't need him to become Shane Mumford, they just need him as a stop-gap for several years.

They actually believe Ty Vickery will eventually become their star ruckman, so don't want to give up a raft of draft picks when they will have a solution soon.

All of Ben Griffiths, David Astbury, Jayden Post and Matt Dea are tall options if Vickery eventually finds himself as a ruckman.

Adelaide wants the compo pick back that they gave Richmond for Richard Tambling, which would likely be late teens or early 20s.

It's about the right price given Tambling hasn't fired much, but who knows if Richmond are prepared to hand it over?
