IF...and i hope thats a big if... we gave back the compo pick for Maric, then it would in effect be a swap of tambling for Maric

No Al it would not be
Tambling has been done and dusted finished
The trade would be Maric for a compo pick in a super draft

They are trying to bend us over like we bent them over

These 2 players have and should have nothing to do with each other.

When you trade a player for a pick, then retrade that pick for a player, you are in effect trading player for player, which is WTF tambling has to do with Maric. That's a pretty simple line of logic to follow

Not saying i would be happy to see it happen, which is why i said "IF..and i hope thats a big if..".

As a side note, I'm curious as to where this super draft concept comes from? is it because there will actually be good depth, or is it simply because it will be the first non compromised in three years?

Depending on where we finish next year, that pick could actually be later than where it would have been last year, even accounting for the gold coast concessions, or is it still based on where Adelaide finish? ..or finished in 2010?

Does anyone know for sure how this works?

It's an 'end of first round compensation pick', which means it falls directly after the first round.

This year and last year, the first round ends in the late 20's because of the GC and GWS having 9-10 picks in the first round. Next year the first round ends at pick 18, which means our pick would be 19 if activated (pending of course there are no priority picks given out which would push our pick back further).

Next years draft is being dubbed the best, if not better than the 2001 draft, not because GWS and GC domination of picks has passed, but purely because of the talent on offer and how far into the draft it will be on offer.  :thumbsup We must hold on to that pick at all costs, and if we do trade it, it should be bundled with a player of ours for an absolute superstar or one of GWS' 17yo's.

Haha, well researched Ralphy.

Matt Dea is a tall option!!!  :wallywink

Also, as already mentioned, what has Tambling get to do with this? Are we supposed to give the pick back just because Tambling hasn't fired 'We'll trade you Tambling, but he comes with a 12 month draft pick back guarantee if he's no good'?

No refunds Adelaide, thanks for the compo pick and Dean McDonald..... suckers!  ;D
And you may not think I care for you

I Think Ralphy has been on the Turps.
"compo pick right price cause Tambling hasn't fired"

Now WTF has Tambling got to do with Maric.

Seriously we can't let this happen
Exactly daniel - what Tambling has or hasn't done is irrelevant and is past history. Just another idiotic footy journo coming up with crap logic  ::). I mean according to Ralph's logic we should give Houli back to Essendon for just their PSD pick ::).

I couldn't agree more Dan but the problem we are desperate for a ruckman and if the club has identified Maric as the best available the unfortunately we have to go for it :banghead I would be bitterly disappointed if we give anything less than a 3rd rounder though :pray

There are more ruckmen around should Adelaide be unreasonable. Blake from Geelong is on a par with Maric and wont come with a high price tag.

Further to this talk on 2012 draft, it's been reported by a few junior experts that the reason why it's so good is because there are a lot (read 10 to 20) top line key position players as well as slightly more than usual numbers of other types.

The Club definitely wants to free up as many picks for next year's draft. That's why I don't believe we will trade our compo pick unless someone becomes available during trade week that we couldn't say no to. Maric of course ain't it.
