I hope Maric can take a contested mark. I don't mind if he is the mould of Stafford. He just needs to have a presence at ball ups.
If he can it will at least be an improvement on Gus.

Apart from Maric's playing ability what other factors were behind us trading him?

Ivan is an individual with strong character, and was a member of the 7 man leadership group in Adelaide. He really impresses us with his approach to the game, particularly in a physical manner on the field. Also with his leadership off the field and his presence around the club we feel he is really going to add to the group. Hopefully he can make our boys walk taller in 2012.

Maric said pretty much all the right things as a new recruit....

* Dimma and the way we played as team attracted him to Richmond. Attractive for him to watch. Had a chat with Dimma and that made it clear

* Privileged to play and work with the young mids we've got.

* Started footy late as a 16 year old. Drafted by Adelaide in 2004 and played 7 years there. Got a huge family so great to be back home and exciting for all involved.

* He wants to play aggressively and be respected for that. He said he plays his best footy and enjoy playing footy when he plays aggressively.  He wants others to hate playing against him. He want to have an impact straight away, be vocal and drag others along being a leader on the track and in the gym to set new and high standards. Enjoys training and being a leader and mentoring kids. Also likes to learn.

So quiet, reserved and polite on camera.... such a mongrel on the field.  ;D

My favourite is his reply to leadership aspirations. They way he said he wants to just be himself seemed so genuine, not just a scripted response  :thumbsup

Ivan’s instant impact intent
richmondfc.com.au
By Tony Greenberg
Tue 18 Oct, 2011

Ivan Maric is aiming for an instant impact at Tigerland . . .

The 200cm, 102kg ruckman from Adelaide, who was snared by Richmond in a three-way deal during the 2011 AFL Trade Week, told ‘Roar Vision’ of his desire to hit the ground running at his new football home.

“I’m really excited about pre-season . . . I just want to come in and have an impact straight away and be pretty vocal, which I’m quite comfortable at doing,” he said.

“I want to be a leader on the track and drag others along and maybe set some new standards as well on the training track and in the weights room.

“I really enjoy training hard and being a leader on the track and mentoring young kids . . .”

Maric, who played 77 games in six seasons at Adelaide, expressed his enthusiasm for the physical side of the game, which he believes will hold him in good stead with the Tigers . . .

“When I play my best footy, and when I enjoy playing footy the most, is when I’m aggressive.  That’s why I loved playing the game as a kid,” he said.

“I want to be aggressive - really aggressive - at the ball . . . I want people to hate playing against me because of that.”

The 25-year-old also revealed why he was so keen to join Richmond . . .
“It’s just the transformation with Damien Hardwick, and the effect he had on the playing group,” Maric said.

“Not only did he make them a lot more competitive and consistent, but just the way they celebrated and played as a team and for each other, was really attractive for me to watch.

“And, then, after meeting with Damien at the end of the year, it made everything really clear about what I wanted to do and who I wanted to play for.”

Maric is ready to rumble
The Age
October 19, 2011

RICHMOND ruck recruit Ivan Maric says he plans to be so aggressive for his new club that opponents will hate to face him.

The 25-year-old's aggression was a key attraction for the Tigers and coach Damien Hardwick, who last week gave up draft pick No. 37 for the Adelaide big man.

While Maric struggled for senior games with the Crows, stuck behind Sam Jacobs in the ruck pecking order, he is likely to instantly assume No. 1 ruckman status with the Tigers.

But Maric said it was more than just greater opportunity and the chance to return to his home state that prompted his desire to join Richmond. ''It was just the transformation with Damien Hardwick and the effect he had on the playing group,'' he said on Richmond's website.

''Not only did he make them a lot more competitive and consistent, but just the way they celebrated and played for the team and played for each other was really attractive for me.

''After meeting with Damien … it made everything clear about what I wanted to do.''

Maric said providing the aggression Richmond was after would come naturally for him. ''That's when I enjoy playing footy and that's why I loved playing the game as a kid,'' he said. ''I want to be aggressive, really aggressive at the ball, but I also want to be respected, and I want people to hate playing against me because of that.''

Maric said he felt ''privileged and honoured'' to be able to work with an emerging Richmond midfield, which boasts Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin.

He was hoping to lift his new club, from the time he first hit the track for pre-season training. ''I just want to come in and have an impact straight away and … being a leader on the track,'' he said.
