and at that, he's a significant upgrade on the stautues that masquerade as ruckman currentluy on our list...4 years would be to thin the contract out to the min

The upgrade argument is questionable going by stats :-\.

the use of the word 'upgrade' is now an excuse for just "about anything goes" at Richmond from the people who want to support everything the administration do. Maric is an average player, theres no way he should get a 4 year deal. And theres no way that I will support an anything goes mentality. Maric may or may not turn out any good but this is way over the top.

According to those stats Angus Graham wins on every single measurable.  :banghead

If Maric gets 4 years and Jackson is re signed over the coming months the club are screwed.

Seriously show me one average who gets 4 year deals. WTF

A bigger shock to me would be only an extension of Jacksons contract.

It is but seriously 4 years is ridiculous for a player who doesnt even compare to Gus stats wise. 2 years would have been sufficient and fair

Ch 7 in Adelaide last night said that Richmond has convinced Maric to join them and the contract offered is 4 years and a million dollars.

This whole trade annoys me.

This is our biggest deficiency in our list and we cover it with a band aid. If we had a decent A Grade ruckman I'd have no problems with Maric coming as a back up.

I just can't see him being an answer to our ruck problems and from what I've seen it just a more consistant performer with the ability of Graham.

Should be going for a bigger fish or going to the VFL IMO.

As i said in the other thread, Brisbane want ALOT for Mitch Clarke, as he wants to go to Freo and Brisbane want to take Zac Clarke plus a pick. So apart from the bandaid, who is there besides Maric? Im not too concerned about $250k but 4 years is a looonngg time mate (insert shakin head smilie)

True, eat em. Last year when negotiating with a variety of players, as they priced themselves out of contention they were scrubbed of the list.

It seems that potential trades are given a value, and once they exceed that value then we move on to the next one. There is a method to what they do.

Like most, I'm surprised that that a 25 year bloke who hasn't played 50 games yet would be offered 4 years, and until i see it i wont believe it. At 250K it's not a lot of money though. If he came good we would be getting a bargain in those last years, and if not, would not be a great expense to pay out. The one advantage is that rather than paying more per year for a shorter contract it would free up salary cap space when free agency comes in.

In saying that, I would be surprised if either party agreed to 4 years at 250k a year.

Just putting it out there but the latest BF rumour doing the rounds is a swap of Maric for Edwards.

not sure what to think of that...as much as I believe there are knocks on edwards, he has played plenty more senior footy than maric...I would have thought a R3 selection or Nason would be more the go

Nason wouldn't get it done. Edwards is a best 22 player (albeit not a good one) Maric is a back up. Hopefully we gain a pick upgrade along the way.

It's harder this year as picks won't be worth as much as in past drafts. In a normal draft Maric would cost no more than a 3rd rounder at best if that but our 3rd round pick is around pick 55 which won't appeal to the Crows. Our 2nd rounder is approx. around pick 37 but we would want to have more than just one pick (#14) in the top 50. Alternatively the Crows should get a compo pick for Phil Davis so maybe Edwards + pick 37 for Maric + end of 1st round compo pick? At least then we would have up our sleeve 3 picks in the top 20 next year with two compo picks in the bank.
