Tigers keen to talk trade deal on Maric

    by: Zac Milbank
    From: The Advertiser
    October 07, 2011

RICHMOND is refusing to be drawn on what Adelaide can expect in exchange for wantaway Crows ruckman Ivan Maric.

As trade week talks begin in Melbourne on Monday, Richmond's head of football Craig Cameron would not buy into speculation the Tigers' first-round draft pick (No. 14) would be used to take Maric to Tigerland.

"I'm hopeful we can come to a deal with Adelaide. I know they've got a couple of other things on the go," Cameron said, alluding to deals the Crows need to finalise for the departing Tony Armstrong and Jack Gunston.

"Adelaide has always been a club which is good to deal with in trade week so I'm hopeful we can come to an arrangement next week."

Speaking publicly for the first time about Maric, 25, Cameron said he would bring needed experience for the Tigers' ruck division.

Cameron is buoyed by the Victorian's desire to shoulder the load next year at the stoppages.

"He's an aggressive bigman and we think he can have a physical presence for us which is really important," Cameron said.

"We need to give our younger ruckmen some real support."

The Tigers are in discussions with Adelaide over ruckman Ivan Maric, who wants to cross to Tigerland, and want to retain their second round pick for a possible trade. The Crows are hoping to get either Richmond's first pick or the end of first round compensation choice the Tigers received for Richard Tambling (the compensation pick was originally for losing Nathan Bock to Gold Coast and was on-traded).

I think the GWS,14/Morris,15 deal carries more weight than 14 going to the Crows for Maric. That would be just pure madness.

For mine it's also symbolic and reads as a statement to the effwit South Australain clubs that if they dig there heals in and be unreasonable, we will use other avenues and methods to get what we want.

The Morris/pick 14/pick15/GWS smacks of 'plan B', yet it is brilliantly cunning by our club.

Two thumbs up  :thumbsup :thumbsup

A guy on stuff calling himself Afl Trade Week & Rumours, wrote this about an hour ago.

Afl Trade Week & Rumours There is strong rumours coming out of S.A of a trade between Richmond and Adelaide it seems as though a Nason, Maric deal could be struck up. Nason has requested a trade back home to SA and Maric has been highly speculated to join the tiges.

Afl Trade Week & Rumours News going around that Ivan maric will definitely end up at Richmond.

The media don't have a clue. They are still linking every 3rd rate ruckmen to us.....

Can Richmond find a ruckman?

The Tigers are in desperate need of a frontline ruckman and there should be plenty on offer at the trade table. Hamish McIntosh seems surplus to needs at North Melbourne with Todd Goldstein and Drew Petrie playing so well in 2011, though the Tigers may be scared away because of McIntosh's injury history. Daniel Connors, who is rumoured to have requested a trade from Punt Road, could provide some much-needed attacking run out of the Roos' backline in return.

Alternatively, Adelaide's Ivan Maric is looking for a move after receiving limited opportunities since Sam Jacobs assumed the no.1 ruck duties. In return, the Tigers could look at offloading Ben Nason, who has struggled to break into the side this year and is looking to return home to South Australia.

Richmond might also seek to trade for either Tom Bellchambers (Essendon) or Shaun Hampson (Carlton). Both are third in line in the ruck queue at their respective clubs - clubs which could still use a plug-in defender like Luke McGuane or Will Thursfield and a second- or third-round draft pick.

Bellchambers and Hampson just re-signed didn't they? Isn't there a rule that stops teams from trading someone that have just signed a new contract?

Richmond - Lose Pick 14
Richmond - Gain Pick 15 + Morris

GWS - Gain a Pick Upgrade from 15 to 14.

By gaining Morris through GWS pre-listing him it means Morris does not have to nominate for FS and Richmond don't have to commit a Draft Pick to him, so lets say for instance PA bid there second round pick (Pick 33?) we must commit our Second Round Pick to Morris.
