Statistically, Ivan's hitout numbers are down by a third - he was averaging 31 hitouts per game last year; this year it's down to 21.

Likewise last year, he had ten 30+ hitout games; he's had just one (round 1) this year. So whether it's still that groin injury that is hampering him or not, Ivan's impact is certainly down significantly from last year.

There in black and white. Give him a rest so he can get his body right.

Was given a rest over the off season to return for this season and that has obviously failed.

Maric has made a slower start to the pre-season than he would like, after he was bothered by soft-tissue problems towards the end of last season.
"I'm feeling good. I'm just taking a bit longer to ease into training because I was really battling towards the end of the year with my groin," he said.
"So I'm just really trying to strengthen everything up so these problems don't happen. I didn't have an operation, it was more rest and rehabilitation."

This was after Maric was played for the last third of 2012 but did not do full training.

Lade said the club would give Maric all the time he needed to get right.
"We're not going to push him at all. We pushed him last year to play some games when we probably should have rested him and with (Tyrone) Vickery going down that hurt Ivan more than anyone," Lade said.
"He gets a bit worried that he's not training and not doing what he needs to get his body right, but we know he works hard and when he does get back into training he'll be up and going."

Maric 'the freshest he's been' - Hardwick (afl site)

Maric 'the freshest he's been'
By Nathan Schmook
2:48pm AEST Friday, May 31, 2013

RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick says ruckman Ivan Maric is as fresh as he's been all season heading into Monday night's key battle against West Coast duo Nic Naitanui and Dean Cox at Patersons Stadium.

Maric suffered an ankle injury against Geelong in round six and he was rested against Melbourne in round eight after playing through the problem for one week.

His form is yet to reach the heights of 2012 when he pushed for All Australian selection but Hardwick said he was up for the challenge of taking on the Eagles' dominant duo.

"He's probably the freshest he's been," Hardwick said on Friday.

"Last year towards the latter stages of the year he did get very tired because he had a huge burden to bear.

"This year it's been a bit of a slower build up for him but he's starting to hit some good form now which we're excited by."

Vice-captain Brett Deledio trained on Friday afternoon and will be fit to take on the Eagles after suffering a knock to his knee in last Saturday night's loss to Essendon.

Young midfielder Reece Conca will play 70 minutes in the VFL this weekend before making his return for Richmond following the round 11 bye.

Interesting. I thought they would swap out Maric for the Big O late. Would be difficult to do on the back of that article/comment now. Really needs to step up against the best ruck combination in the league. Can't see it happening unfortunately with Nick Nat jumping all over him I would imagine

lets see if he can move freely, jump and kick ( if he gets the ball  :P) on monday and then we can truly determine the bull plop quantity of the statement
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."
