Arguably his best match for two years... :shh

He’s been good this year since the bye
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Tough all day when we needed him to be.

Couldn't believe it when I checked the game thread at quarter time and some bloke said he was jumping at shadows. Cracked in super hard at least 3 times that quarter - didn't shirk one all day.

Sometimes people just gotta give credit when it's due and it's good to see some people in here doing just that  :gotigers

I think I saw him shirk it once in the first Q. Mind you we were putrid in the first across the board.

After that he was super.

Happy to reserve judgement for Q1 until I've watched replay...

15. Brandon Ellis (Richmond)

Everyone talks about what he isn’t — a Michael Voss-style crash and bash star who opponents fear. What he is at Richmond is a 26-year-old free agent with elite foot skills who averages 22 possessions this year with clean hands and an ability to play halfback or wing. Slot that in next year and it immediately improves your side. Clubs would have to offer four or five years, but the Cats offered Luke Dahlhaus four years at about $2 million and that has turned out well so far. His game against Carlton shows what he can do — 22 touches at 71 per cent kicking efficiency, seven tackles, quality pressure. If you were a Fremantle or Carlton looking for a versatile wingman/utility you could do a lot worse.

CHAMPION DATA SAYS: Rates above average for disposals and had the third-best kicking efficiency of any wingman.

Trade talk: How Tigers can win from Ellis deal

Jon Ralph and Jay Clark,
Herald Sun
23 Aug 2019

Richmond will be desperate for rivals to drive the price up on Brandon Ellis rather than hoping they can find the money to keep him.

If Ellis secures a four or five-year contract elsewhere on as much as $500,000 the Tigers could realistically expect a second-round compensation pick for the 26-year-old after eight years’ service.

In an ideal world the Tigers would have the cap space to keep the free agent wingman/half back.

But with a fleet of highly paid stars — including Tom Lynch, Alex Rance, Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin ad Dion Prestia — they won’t be able to come close to rival offers.

West Coast secured an end-of-first-round compensation pick when Scott Lycett left on a five-year, $3 million deal, but the Tigers won’t get that much.

The Dogs got a second-rounder for Luke Dahlhaus last year on a four-year, $2 million deal.

I believe another factor that goes into the equation is the original pick the club paid for the player.

In Ellis's case it was pick 15.

Lycett was a second rounder and Dalhaus a rookie.

Not a surprise but Caro said Ellis will move on [elsewhere]. Didn't mentioned to which other club.
