Pick #32 Richmond

Name: Tim Broomhead
Position: Midfield/Utility
Age (by draft day): 18
Height: 182cm
Weight: 73kg

Quick Notes on Tim Broomhead
Can play anywhere on the ground

Tim Broomhead- portmagpies.com.au
Good skills
Strong mark
Great endurance
Works hard
Quick
Wins the contested footy
Tim Broomhead in detail
Tim Broomhead is a hardworking midfielder who can also move forward or back as required.

Broomhead’s greatest asset is his work rate, on the ball it sees him get to more contests and up forward his repeat leads are a real standout.

If Broomhead’s disposal was 5-10% better we’d be talking about him as a top 15 pick, unfortunately whilst his disposal is solid it isn’t as damaging as others.

Expect Broomhead to get drafted somewhere near pick 30 although in recent times the whisper is he may go a little higher.

Brisbane Lions Selection #33

MATTHEW HAYNES
From: (Northern Knights, Vic)
DOB: 19/03/94
Height: 190cm
Weight: 76Kg

We are absolutely thrilled that Matthew was still available for us at selection 33. We believe Matthew will eventually be the ideal replacement for the now retired Josh Drummond.
Like Josh, Matthew has pace to burn and elite disposal by foot making him an excellent weapon off half back. He Averaged 15.8 disposals at 68.3 percent efficiency in NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

Pick #34 Richmond

Name: Rory Atkins
Position: Midfielder
Age (by draft day): 18
Height: 186cm
Weight: 80kg

Quick Notes on Rory Atkins
Good decision making.
Wins the contested ball.
Good overhead mark.
Agile.
Rory Atkins in detail
Rory Atkins is a quality inside midfielder who can rack up disposals at ease.

Atkins has shown a tendancy to go missing over the last year and this should see him slide from where most people had him getting drafted earlier this year.

Atkins has been played as a half forward with mixed results, I like him as a midfielder where he does his best work.

Atkins now seems like a bit of a gamble so expect him to get selected after the first 30 selections are completed.

Great pick TFT.

My write up...

Pick #17 - Fremantle - Mason Shaw (KPF/2nd Ruck)
Height: 197cm
Weight: 82kg
Club: South Fremantle

Freo are glad that they get local boy Mason Shaw to fill their void at FF. Big monster in the goal square who is not dis-similar to a young Kurt Tippett except he's actually learnt how to kick. IMO Shaw is the best KPF in this draft. He's everything you want in a young KPF, tall, athletic, strong mark and a good kick of the footy. Shaw was the dominant forward in the WAFL colts a year ago as an underage kid, kicking 66 goals including 7.0 in the Grand Final. Fast forward a year and you barely hear about him. Mitch Brown broke his jaw in a WAFL praccy game at the start of the year which halted his start to the season proper but that didn't affect his form as he came out and had 12 kicks for a lazy 8.4. Fair effort if you ask me. I get the feeling that Mason has been cruising a little bit this season and now that we have him I'll admit it was us who asked him to tank his way down to us.

Shaw is a big game player as evidenced by his 7 goal haul in last years Grand Final and backing that up with 5.0 in this years grand final. Has some ability as shown in the Champs to play as a 2nd ruck but ideally he'll develop into a stay at home forward.

Last season played 21 games for his 66 goals. This year only managed the 10 games for a total of 40 goals. Averaging almost 1 goal per game more.

Anyone willing to take a gamble on Michael Close? This kid could be the next Jonathan Brown but with injuries a concern he may not be worth the risk

Can't believe everyone is on the same wavelength. I had both of MT's picks as  my 1 & 2 choices for Essendons first live pick and Atkins and Hayes as 3 & 4.  :o I'll have to have another look now  :(   Back as soon as I can.

Pick 35. Essendon

Marvin Warrell, 18, 182cm, 70kg

Warrell is capable both as a small forward or in the midfield. Has had some very good games including this year's WAFL grand final where he kicked three goals in to guide South Fremantle to it’s second premierships in consecutive years. Clever ball-user who always seems to have more time than others, with the ball in his hand. Needs to improve his endurance to allow him to get to more contests. Is a natural footballer who will develop into a dangerous ball user in the future with the proper training.

Kevin Sheehan says: "Medium forward/midfielder with excellent vision and awareness. Has very clean hands and disposes of the ball very effectively on both sides of his body. A creative player that has the ability to find time and space regularly. His defensive pressure is a real feature of his game. Played two games with WA during the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships."
