In a separate incident, Vlastuin caught Luke Parker with a stray elbow to the head. Given Parker stayed on the field to take his kick, it's likely to be graded low impact. Michael Christian will therefore decide whether Vlastuin's conduct was careless (fine) or intentional (one week). However, the match review has made it clear they don't like raised elbows – which could be bad news for the important Richmond defender.

Should be a week, however it would be tough to find it as intentional. He wasn’t facing Parker, and was responding to being shoved. Parker took the kick, so medium impact would be the highest they could call it.

You could have said the same with Houli last year and look how that panned out ::)
100% it will be graded intentional, medium impact 2-3 weeks IMO.

I reckon Parker put a bit of mayo on the contact but it was still silly by Flossy. I’m expecting 2 as well.

Can Nick Vlastuin now be classified as an elite player?

By Alex Zaia
SEN
29 June 2018

Former Chief Football Writer at the Herald Sun Mike Sheahan says Richmond defender Nick Vlastuin can now be categorised as an elite player.

Vlastuin was one of the Tigers’ best in their top-of-the-table win over Sydney last night, collecting 21 possessions, taking 10 marks, laying six tackles and booting a goal.

Sheahan believes the 25-year-old is now more than just a dogged shut down defender.

“I’m interested in Nick Vlastuin,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“I thought he was a journeyman until probably Grand Final day last year.

“He’s an elite player Vlastuin. He reads it well and his hands are great.”

Melbourne great Garry Lyon was also impressed by the Richmond premiership player, saying he comprehensively beat his Swans opponent Gary Rohan.

“He played in a manner against Geelong on his own terms, and when I say on his own terms, he was left to his own devices,” Lyon said.

“I thought he almost single handily almost turned that game.

“I’m surprised that any team would let him play on his own. They didn’t last night Sydney, but he was far too good for Gary Rohan, he out bodied Rohan on a couple of occasions.

Herald Sun sports journalist Sam Edmund believes Vlastuin’s ability to run and carry the football was crucial in being able to regularly propel Richmond forward.

“He’s not just a stopper – 525 meters gained,” Edmund said.

“That is a darn good output for a games work, so he drives them forward too.”

Vlastuin could face a stint on the sidelines after elbowing Sydney midfielder Luke Parker in the face during last night's win.

The umpire let Parker have his way with Vlas in that Parker wouldnt let him up, what was he meant to do?
It should be argued Parkers provocative action caused the incident in that if Parker had let him get up then no contact would have occurred.
Swans play like that sic.:
Same happened when Rance was over the bounday in a tackle and 3 swans jumped on him, Grimes to the rescue.

I dunno, I feel that’s about right. It would be hard to find him guilty of intentional, as he wasn’t facing Parker. And hard to find impact as harder that medium as Parker played on - no concussion.

Looked really bad, the actuality was far less IMO.

Comparing Vlastuin’s incident to Houli’s from last year is a stretch.
1 week is all Vlastuin’s is worth.
