Successful coach of the Vic Metro team, former Carlton forward Rohan Welsh, has likened Richmond’s first pick in last week’s 2012 National Draft, Nick Vlastuin, to a younger version of triple Brisbane premiership captain and Brownlow Medallist, Michael Voss.

“If I had to compare him to an AFL footballer, I would say that he reminds me of a young Michael Voss.  He is tough, hard at the footy, and the man with the footy, leads by his actions, and uses the ball well,” Welsh said.

“’Tigger’ is just so hard that sometimes you can forget that he is actually a super smart footballer with great skills.

I was on the 'Grundy train' but the selection of McBean eases the pain. As for Menzel he was not the type of medium sized player we had most need for in any case. His knees would always be an issue (real or imagined) as well. We needed and still need top quality specialist mids who can go forward or back....not the other way around.

yeh mate but you can imagien when grundy starts killing it for the pies and Ivaan is in his 30's they will give it to us like tambling and franklin/roughhead

That's rough mate. I thought he was good for a first year player. Sometimes people expect so much from juniors. Thought he was better than many that were picked ahead of him too.
