I think best case scenario Hampson has a blinder of a year (by his standards) and we break even on the trade.

Seems a stupid risk when we were happy to trade pick 28 we could have easily used it better.

Pick 12 would have easily acquired McEvoy. Even add in Griffths and get a 3rd rounder from St.Kilda to balance it out.

OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

yep we could have easily used it better but chose the difficult course instead.

In that trade we are losing a potential starting 18 mid with #11, our potentially a starting key forward depending on development

For a slight upgrade on a second ruckmab. If you can indeed provide evidence  hampson is inferior

Its not unrealistic we play one ruck and maric remains first choice

It is if we want to go deep into September.

I'm not implying pick 28 will be a star. Pick 28 will be pick 28. Be incredibly surprised if any pick pre 30 is not be a better pick up than Hampson.

I don't think I've ever written someone off before they've even played a game but happy to start with writing Hampson off. He can't play. Happy to be proved wrong but for pick 28 is a brain fade.

I'm willing to put money on at least 5 picks pre 30 not being a better pick up than hampson.

Nor will any pick pre 30 be able to play ruck immediately and reduce marics workload, thus reducing the risk of him breaking down permanently during the season 2014

Any ruckman would reduce Marics workload no matter how crap. Even Angus if he played as much as hampson is going to

I'm about winning finals and ultimately a GF and Hampson is bloody hopeless man for a second rounder. I'm peeed cause I believe we could have easily got him for a third and that wouldn't been okay

on what basis do you think that Carlton were willing to accept our third round pick?

How many games has Hammer played in 7 years? 58 or something? Hopefully he comes on next year but I would have preferred taking a punt on a kid. If our recruiters are as good as BJ says they are then we should be able to pick up someone good with pick 28 (or whatever it will end up being). Vickery/Stephenson/Beaner should be able to help out Maric. I don't think Hampson has been targeted as his back up. It seems they honestly believe he is a good player who will contribute as a forward and as 2nd ruckman (which of course allows Vicks to play forward all day if all 3 play in the same side). I hope they are right but I'm not convinced.

what sort of a childish reply is that?
you made the statement but not willing to back it with anything but a lowbrow deflection?

Okay well past history says he is worth a third round based on the fact he has shown sfa, that's what I meant. Only one eyed lads believe he is worth that pick.

Also Al do you think second round is a valuable pick? Clearly you don't by the way your harping on.

Is that right?
