Don't blame the AFL blame the players. The AFLPA made FA something that had to be included in the current CBA. And the AFL making sure their rules don't get challenged in the courts folded like a deck of cards

Lions list meeting holds key to McGuane future

Richmond free agent Luke McGuane will know on Tuesday if he will continue his career with the Brisbane Lions, but axed Magpie ruckman Darren Jolly faces a longer wait to find out if he will prolong his career with St Kilda.

The Lions will determine if they have room on their list for McGuane, who has expressed his desire to play under new coach Justin Leppitsch in his home state, at a pivotal list management meeting on Tuesday.

Richmond forward Luke McGuane says he has no guarantee of joining Brisbane Lions

LUKE McGuane says he has no deal in place to join Brisbane after walking out on Richmond.

McGuane wants to move home to Queensland after eight seasons at Tigerland and quit Richmond to become a delisted free agent.

But the Lions are yet to take up the option of recruiting the 192cm swingman.

"We've spoken but there's no 100 per cent deal or anything like that," McGuane told SEN today.

"I'm hopeful and I'd like to think there's a little bit more than a chance I'll get there, but obviously I'm putting most of my eggs in one basket."

Asked what guarantees he had from the Lions, McGuane said: "None at all at the moment.

"If it doesn't work out between us I'll have to look at other options."

McGuane said the timing seemed right for a move home as his contract expired and Richmond assistant coach Justin Leppitsch took the senior job at Brisbane.

"Since he first walked in the door he was my backline coach and we struck up a good relationship there, and he went to offensive coach when I went forward so we have been together pretty much since our time at the Tigers together," he said.

"I spoke to Leppa and it wasn't out of the question (that I could join) the Brisbane Lions so I just thought if I'm going to go for that chance, I've got to go home while the chance is there."
