Basing your draft strategy & picks on what might happen in the next year's draft is idiotic IMO.

Not completely

You need a long term view

For example if there is a apparently strong group of tall prospects in the following years draft pool, the club shouldn't simply ignore this information

this would be rather short sited and poor list management

Mr magic looks 15 years ahead -  hence we need to trade Lids and Cotch now as they will be too old when we challenge

Not having a strategy about future drafts and list management is idiotic.

It's not a rebuild anymore - and anyway why would would you say f.e. "well we won't get the pace we badly need this year because there'll be better quick players next year - and we're sure that X number of blokes we only gave one year contracts to for next year won't make it so we'll have the space''

How do we even know where we'll finish and what picks we'll have? Can we foresee things like form &  injuries or which players might want to leave? The same goes for the kids that will be there next year - how do you know what happen with them this year? Some might go backwards, some might get injured, some could quit the sport altogether. Don't be surprised if next year's supposedly "super draft" is only rated as average by the time it rolls around. Happens nearly every year.

Marsh would need to increase his beep test almost 60% to even be fit enough to be a midfielder. Then magically grow some balls and a heart.

Lack of balls & heart is often the trade off with genuine speedsters - better a flashy linebreaker to have that issue than a mediocre plodding footsoldier like Shaun Grigg.

and a guy with one of the worst beep tests going around and doesn't actually play midfield is going to do this? Gordon and Lloyd are both quick and can actually kick a footy and aren't soft as butter. But yeah we picked the wrong guys lol

Funny stuff. Sure they both would've been snapped up if we hadn't taken them. FJ panicking again and paying overs for blokes we probably could've rookied.

Kicking need that great for a late pick that would've effectively replaced White....a player hardly known for his awesome disposal....
