Nope, he played vfl so not injured.

He is / has been carrying an injury in every game. Ankle

So why play him in the VFL then if that's the case? Or is this just another poor decision by the RFC...

e-captain Brett Deledio is likely to be named to play his first game of this season, with the Tigers to make a call on his availability in the 48 hours before Sunday night's Anzac eve match against Melbourne.

Deledio has not played this season because of a persistent quad injury, but he trained on Thursday morning and is "over the hump", according to coach Damien Hardwick.

The Tigers will name an extended 25-man squad on Thursday evening, but train again on Saturday, with Deledio likely to be given until then to prove his fitness.

“It'll be a bit of a risk assessment and then we'll make the decision later on Friday or Saturday,” Hardwick said.

“He's got to get through training and we'll see how that pans out.  But he's made some progress from this time last week.

“We'd love to have him playing this week, but we've also got a long season ahead of us.”

Hardwick declared ruckman Ivan Maric a certain starter after two VFL matches in his comeback from a back injury.

Fellow ruckman Shaun Hampson, who trained with his corked thigh heavily strapped, and tall defender David Astbury (ankle), still needed to prove their fitness.

Midfielder Anthony Miles will be considered for selection against the Demons after being dropped for last Friday night's clash with West Coast.

“We asked the kid to play a bit hurt and he probably wasn't up to his usual level of expectation,” Hardwick said.

“He's a terrific player for us and he'll put his hand up to play this week.”

For the same reason they played him for 3 weeks at AFL level with the sore ankle.

Players with niggling injuries every week, some do better than others

There is nothing new here, been happening at all clubs forever and a day  ;D

I know that, but the fact is they played him in the vfl so it wasn't like they rested him

He was dropped

Said it before and I'll say it again. It's less the actual injury and more trying to get confidence in it. That and a drop in form saw him put into the two's to get back to his best. Don't expect him to spend too long there :shh

How is his drop in form greater than Cotchin's ?

Because it is? His form the past 4 games is consistently worse than the past year we got from him

The best thing for an injured player down on form is to get that injury fixed. Not play him at a lower level to get confidence in playing with that injury. That makes no sense. If you want to get him back in form you fix the injury especially in round 4 of the season.
He was dropped, pure and simple. And if he gets a recall it's not because he has gotten more confidence in his injury.
Another excuse for the RFC.
