I don't see how $6m over 6 years gets the deal done, especially if Fyfe is on $1.4, if that is true then Dusty could command $1.5m with mad vultures like Nth Melb circling around.
If he gives Richmond a loyalty discount then maybe we could get away with $5.5m/4yr or if we are lucky $6.5m/5yr

Dustin Martin contract, future at Richmond, Justin Leppitsch says he hasn’t shown signs he’s leaving

RICHMOND assistant coach Justin Leppitsch believes star midfielder Dustin Martin hasn’t displayed any behaviour to suggest he will depart the club.

Fairfax Media earlier this week reported the Tigers have offered Martin a deal worth six million dollars over six years as they attempt to fend off interest of rival clubs.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, former Brisbane coach Leppitsch says the 26-year-old has not acted in a similar way to Lions players who left the club during his three-year tenure.

“It’s not like he’s displaying distant behaviour, which I’ve seen quite a bit of with players wanting to go,” Leppitsch said.

“In my time at Brisbane I’ve seen a lot of the behaviours that attaches to that.

“He hasn’t shown any of those signs, in fact, he’s more entrenched in the team emotionally than ever.

“It would be a surprise (if he left) but we live in a world of not just emotion, but money and other things that drive players.

“But Dusty is so much part of the furniture it would feel strange if he actually left.”

And Leppitsch says the club’s coaching staff would be able to tell if a player was not invested into the team’s cause.

“We know relationships well and we know when they are and aren’t working and someone might be being distant and maybe not giving everything they’ve got,” he said.

“We all sense what those little things are and that’s when alarm bells start to ring. Whether it be a player used to turn up and do extras a lot more than they used to or they are less engaged in meetings than they used to be.

“All those little things you start to pick up on and think the person is starting to disengage a little.

“None of that has been there with Dusty, if anything it’s gone the opposite, so emotionally he’s invested in us and let’s hope that’s the reason he stays as much as any.”

it's looking more likely as time moves on that Dusty is on the move.
If he does what would be your minimum expectation of a return??
I would take nothing less 2 first rounders (top 5 this year and one next year) and a 2nd rounder for next year or player.
No way we would accept end of first round compensation only....

If he leaves it won't be via trade. If he signs on with another team and we don't match the offer, the likely compensation would be a first round pick after our own first pick. So right now would be pick #14.

Martin leaves we'll go hard for Kelly and then/or Lynch (GC) next year.  :shh

This.

And it would be nice as part of the deal if he did a Dangerfield type move and got the destination club to throw in their first pick.

If it was GWS, for example, based on current ladder pos wed end up with:-

15, 16, 17, 18

Dont hold your breath though  :-[

I'd think if dusty wanted to leave he'd do the right thing by the rfc and request a trade

Don't forget we can always match the offer.

If he leaves, we are getting something in return, have no fear.

Something tells me he will stay though. I don't think he will want to move out of his comfort zone. Bloke looks very happy.

Not necessarily because we still have the threat of matching the offer up our sleeve.

Dusty deal is done "in principle".
Some fine details will be worked out.

“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
