“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

The media know they've only got another 5-7 days to milk this for all it's worth so it's a peeing contest to see who can make up the most crap and get the most mileage out of it.

Wouldn't be surprised if Hawthorn or Sydney crept under the radar and Bang.

However wouldn't be surprised if he stayed either.

Out: Martin, Bolton, Carr, Miles, Lennon, Menadue, first round picks

In: Stringer, Kelly or Hopper & Kennedy, Lever, Balic, Apeness, Trengrove

I could live with that..... :shh

Latest media thought bubble = Dusty plays better at North's home ground  :facepalm.

----------------------------------------------------------------

DUSTIN Martin plays better footy at Etihad Stadium, a fact that's set to have North Melbourne fans salivating as negotiations on his future heat up.

With speculation swirling that the out-of-contract Richmond superstar is weighing up a seven-year $10.5million offer from the Etihad tenants, analysis of statistics shows Martin is potentially more at home in Docklands.

Also up for Martin's consideration, an $8.4million deal on the table from MCG-housed Tigers.

The 26-year-old has played 25 matches at Etihad compared to 100 at the 'G, but in almost every major category he dominates at the roof-covered stadium.

He averages more touches (contested and uncontested), more scoring contributions and more metres gained on the Kangaroos' home turf as opposed to the Tigers' home ground.

He's even polled a whopping 18 Brownlow Medal votes at Docklands compared with 47 votes in four times as many games at the MCG.

Martin is expected to travel to New Zealand to spend time discussing his future with his father after Richmond's round 23 clash with St Kilda.

Making the trip all the more intriguing, his manager Ralph Carr is expected to join him.

Martin's dad Shane was deported by the Australian government to his native New Zealand over alleged bikie links.

Richmond has granted Martin leave from the club several times to visit his father.

Richmond can’t match North Dusty offer says McClure (SEN)

Richmond can’t match North Dusty offer says McClure

By Justin Talent
SEN
22 August 2017

SEN news breaker Sam McClure believes Richmond will not be able to exercise its right to match any incoming offer for Dustin Martin should he decide to accept North Melbourne’s reported mega deal for the Tigers star.

McClure reports that North Melbourne’s rumoured seven year, $1.5 million a season offer to Martin is just over $300,000 a year higher than Richmond’s current tabled offer over the same period of time.

With the on-baller apparently set to travel with his manager Ralph Carr to discuss his future with his father in New Zealand in the bye week between Round 23 and the finals, The Age journalist believes that while Richmond could have the capacity to increase their offer, they simply don’t have the salary cap space to add over $2.1 million to Martin’s contract over the next seven years.

“It is fair to say that there is no way they can reach $1.5 million times seven,” McClure said on SEN Breakfast.

He added that Martin’s post-football options should mean that the money involved is more important than it would be for other players.

“Dusty, unlike some other players like say a (Luke) Hodge or a (Nick) Riewoldt who are retiring this year, is unlikely to go into the media or coaching, so that extra money is significant,” said McClure.

Tim Watson agreed, believing the current big money contracts the Tigers have for skipper Trent Cotchin, spearhead Jack Riewoldt, star defender Alex Rance and midfielder Dion Prestia heavily limit their wiggle room in negotiations.

“They have probably gone as long and as far as they can,” he said.

“Richmond have got Rance, Riewoldt, Cotchin and Prestia probably under reasonably big contracts. There’s not much wiggle room left there.”

Garry Lyon believes the situation is simple depending on what Martin wants from the rest of his AFL career.

“If he wants to make a financial decision, then he won’t be at Richmond. If it’s purely on the dollars, then he won’t be at Richmond,” he said.

“If there are other things that are more important, then he would (stay at the Tigers).”

Mario from Doncaster: Hilarious Richmond fan takes aim at North Melbourne’s pursuit of Dustin Martin

August 22, 2017
FOX SPORTS

MARIO from Doncaster is back.

But this time, the fanatical Richmond fan doesn’t have the Tigers in his sights.

Instead, on Monday night, he came focused on the Kangaroos and their pursuit of Dustin Martin.

The regular caller to SEN’s The Run Home has previously compared the demise of his beloved Richmond to the death of JFK, as well as to Mel Gibson’s 2006 film ‘Apocalyto’.

This time, he’s hilariously taken aim at North Melbourne.

“When that Old Kent Road of a club North Melbourne gets uppity about Dusty, it’s time to pull out the baseball bat,” Mario said.

“Last week we heard about the ‘Demons Cheese Platter’. At the petrol station, we’re bringing out the ‘North Hunger Pack’.

“It consists of one frozen sausage roll from IGA, one non-refrigerated, no-name Cola from IGA and a packet of dog chews.

“Five cents from that goes to the North players’ off-season trip to Phillip Island, where Jack Ziebell is going to be photographed with a penguin.”

As is his tradition, Mario then hung up.

His call was abruptly over and the hosts of The Run Home — and us — were left in stitches.
