“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Wow
What a loser this guy is
Doesn't he realise he is just saying he sucks as a coach if he can't beat what he claims is an inferior premiership team compared to other eras?

Not as good as stkilda ?
That was the clincher that he is just jealous and bitter.

St Kilda under Lyon had to choke games against top sides and turn them into a grind to try and win them. It worked at Docklands (their home ground) but at the MCG their scoring ability was terrible (except for the rare time they beat up on a bottom side).

2008 ................ (5 games at the MCG)
18.11-119 vs Carl R15  W.............. Carl 11th
12.11-83   vs Coll R19  L
8.13-61     vs Geel QF  L
17.4-101   vs Coll SF    W ............... still only 21 shots.
9.10-64     vs Haw PF   L

2009 ................ (4 games at the MCG)
17.12-114 vs Melb R22 W......... Melb was the wooden spooner.
12.8-80 vs Coll QF        W
9.6-60   vs Dogs PF       W
9.14-68  vs Geel GF      L

2010 ............... (6 games at the MCG)
10.10-70 vs Geel R13   W
6.16-52   vs Coll R16    L
12.11-83 vs Geel QF    W
13.10-88 vs Dogs PF    W
10.8-68   vs Coll GF     D
7.10-52   vs Coll GFR   L

St Kilda's 2008-10 record
Total: 53 wins 21 losses 1 draw .... 71% win rate
MCG:   8 wins 6 losses 1 draw ...... 53%
Finals: 5 wins 4 losses 1 draw ...... 50%   "
GFs:    0 wins 2 losses 1 draw ......  0%   "
No flags.

Now compare that to us:

Richmond's 2017-19 record
Total: 56 wins 18 losses .............. 76% win rate
MCG: 40 wins 5 losses ................ 89%
Finals: 7 wins 1 loss .................... 88%     "
GFs:    2 wins 0 losses ................ 100%    "
2 flags.

It's not even close :lol.

Scott ignoring facts and just deflecting from knowing deep down his Geelong side is on the way down.

If there was a like button, I'd like your post.

Thank you for making me smile in these dark times :)

Brilliant Mt

We knew this anyway. All for players coaches showing a bit of personality, but when you are an out and out loser filled with so much rage and jealousy like this guy is, then it really is sad.

Worry about your own side Scotty and enjoy another year being short of the mark against the top sides like tonight.

The part about not being the saints or pies lol lost me  :sleep.
yeah me too but there is a strong case for Hawks and Geelong. Thing is we dont know how long we may stay in the window for.
I dont have a problem saying geelong 2007 - 2012 was a more skilled side and ran a bit deeper with quality and winning three in a row has been done how many times the hawks from 08 - 15 made five g/f's if we make 5 maybe we can then argue the point.

Scott's Tigers drive-by may come back to bite Cats, warns Watson

A comment made in March may have given Richmond some extra ammunition in the Grand Final

afl.com.au
19 October 2020

ESSENDON great Tim Watson believes Chris Scott may have inadvertently given Damien Hardwick and his mighty Richmond team some extra motivation for the 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final.

Scott spoke to AFL.com.au's chief football writer Damian Barrett in March this year, and ranked the Tigers, and the dynasty they are creating, below several other great teams of the past 20 years, including St Kilda.

"Every team in the competition has deficiencies and I don't think we're in [a dynasty] era ... Richmond are a really good team and I think West Coast is going to be really strong this year, but with the greatest respect to (Richmond), they're not Hawthorn in their multiple-premierships-in-a-row (years)," Scott told In the Game.

"I don't think they're Geelong or St Kilda or Collingwood through that 2009-2010 period. I think it's a lot more even than that."

Speaking on SEN radio station, Watson asked respected commentator Garry Lyon for his views on the Scott's comments from March.

"Do you think he paid Richmond the respect they deserve even in March? Or do you reckon that was about right earlier this year?" Watson wondered.

Lyon said: "They had two premierships in the bag … he changed his tune last Saturday night. He called them a great team. Now they have a chance to become an all-time great team."

Watson said: "If you were Damien Hardwick, would you use that?"

Watson: "You would have to, wouldn't you?"

Lyon: "You'd probably just have it in the background."

Watson: "It's not the most important thing in the lead up to this game in terms if your planning or your preparation, but you would just throw it out there for some sort of emotional charge for the players to maybe remember deep in the final quarter."

Geelong premiership player Tom Lonergan has declared his fomer coach Chris Scott as “clearly” the best in the competition.

The for and against case in terms of Scott has seen plenty of debate, with his supporters pointing to his home and away win percentage of over 72 per cent, greater than any current or former coach in the game.

However, the argument against the 46-year-old is just as clear. He's claimed just one premiership in his time at the helm despite missing just one finals series since 2011.

Lonergan, who played seven seasons under Scott from 2011-2017, is firmly in the first category.

“Clearly, Chris Scott, he’s the best coach in the game, he has to be,” Lonergan told SEN Mornings.

“I know Geelong supporters sometimes get a bit upset the fact we haven’t quite got it done at the pointy end, but to be able to put the team in the position every year to compete for a premiership - and they’ll do it again this year, they’ll be a top four team no doubt - you’ve got to give a lot of credit to Chris and the way he constantly evolves the team.

H/A form means nothing if you continually flop in September. Only premierships count.

I'd say MacRae and Leppa are influenced by Richmond - not the other way around.

Classic Chris Scott.
