The difference is GF's aren't played at those grounds. Some teams don't even get a look at the G and even if they do it's only once or twice a season.

Richmond have basically copied the Hawthorn formula of drafting a good core, letting it mature and then filling the gaps with ready-made players from other clubs. The single most important ingredient for a “dynasty” is desire; can the players sustain the mental level required to stay at the top? It wouldn’t surprise me if Richmond falter this year, especially if they get a couple of injuries. They’ve had a charmed run over the last couple of years, and a nonexistent opponent in the grand final last year. West Coast in particular will be keen to atone this year, and they’ll be hot on their heels.

Richmond so far following in the Hawks footsteps in the sense that they keep dispatching interstate opponents in the grand final with ease. Be nice to see them challenged by someone while they’re at the top of their game. Eagles and Pies the only two teams who could do that this year I think

Essendon had 3 in 1999-2001, Brisbane had 4 ( and by the 4th they were clearly 2nd fiddle to port Adelaide), Geelong had 4 years with a lucky 5th in 2011 (The 2011 team was not dominant), hawthorn had 4 And took 3 flags as a reward.

Richmond should easily have been three-peaters as well.

This is their last year.

5. Richmond a powerhouse?
For decades we enjoyed the shenanigans over at Punt Road. A rotating door of coaches, botched draft picks, manure dumped on their doorstep et cetera. Ah, the good old days. And now Richmond has won two flags in three years as well as powered away in terms of membership figures. As a lifelong Collingwood supporter, this also traumatises me. What we have to truly understand here is the psyche of the Richmond Football Club is about angst, self-loathing and self-detonation. This success thingy in the modern era is an anathema. Let’s disallow these two flags and nature will do the rest. Their flags should be awarded to their opponents – to Adelaide in 2017 and, since GWS is out of the competition, to GWS’s last opponent in 2019, Collingwood.
