I can't be the only one who thinks Dustin Martin is in danger of becoming overrated.

Take away his 2017 season which is looking like one out of the box and he's a very, very good player but a rung below the likes of Sam Mitchell who never garnered anywhere near the same praise despite being instrumental in four Premierships. That Martin was BOG in neither of his Norm Smith winning GF's tells a story, if he wasn't covered in tatts with a ratbag father the media narrative around him would be far more subdued.

Great one-on-one player but his overall output frequently doesn't measure up to his superstar media status. I would draw a comparison with Rioli there, but Cyril at least was spectacular in ways no other AFL player has been. Take out Dusty's stiff-arm and his game is effective but fairly vanilla.

I remember @scotty21 refusing to accept Richmond were any good the year they won the flag. I felt his pain. The incredulity that this laughing stock could be a genuinely relevant team was palpable

I’d say we look more “Essendon” so far this pre-season.

Absolutely laughable statement. I know I don’t need to preach to the converted but there’s a reason why opposition players put so much work into him and try and do a 3-1 gang tackle and he’s versatility forward and mid is precisely the reason why he’s in a special league. His 6 goal performance against the Lions was out of this world and the final he didn’t play well in albeit he was injured was against Collingwood and we got smashed in the middle.

Unlike other powerful midfielders like Fyfe and Dangerfield what sets Martin apart is how good his kicking is. He goes for these insanely difficult kicks which don’t always work and then people have a sook and say his DE% is low but he has absolutely demolished teams with his field kicking alone

Dustin Martin isn't a player he's an AFL brand. Basically Richmond = huge club = $$$$. They need to make a Richmond great besides KB so they can sell merchendise for another 40 years. Expect more medals to come they can fit in another Brownlow at least
