Most flags/dynasties come on on the back of one or two superstars. Regardless of whether or not they're BOG on Grand Final day.
How many flags would they have won in the 70's without Matthews? :shh

Not the mention the flags they won in the 80's because the VFL changed the zones to stop us dominating...just like the AFL are changing the rules now to try and stop us.... :shh :shh

...and the Clarkson dynasty side was as boring as batshyte to watch. Uncontested kick-mark keepings-off snoozefest for the most part.:shh :shh :shh

Yep, never thought I'd see the day that names like Riewoldt, Cotchin, Grimes, Lynch etc go unnoticed because we only have one good player named Dusty  ::)

Heck only so long ago we had the best defender of the modern era still playing, but apparently now we are a team of Dusty + sidekicks.

How ridiculous.

If he was that good you'd expect to hear about it but in their next breath they are complaining that Dusty isn't even that good anyway but he's the AFL pin-up boy.

Lol we live in a parallel universe where one player can simultaneously drag a team to 3 flags in 4 years but also be overrated....

The issue is that Rutten has been teaching "team defence" Richmond style of last decade. Unfortunately, the new rules have created a new style that requires players to mark an opponent instead of blades of grass. Rutten's approach is doomed to failure.

Your right. Richmond look like they are about to fall off a cliff!

Rutten is trying to teach them to win the ball. Every team that wins their own ball,  controls the game.

How many Essendon players would get a game at Richmond?
Quote from: DW
Most I'd say. While it's a great team, on paper the names aren't much to look at.

Essendon blokes getting a game for Richmond. Fmd

Half their team is injured and most of their own supporters hate their own list for being useless.

I'd take Tippa for Rioli.

Probably try to squeeze McGrath and Merrett in at the expense of guys like Pickett and Caddy.

That's about it.

Would take Shiel as a mercy situation so he could learn how to toughen up from Cotch

You don’t need to stop Dusty to beat Richmond the Lions showed that in the Qualifying final last year

Classic from Harris Andrews if true

https://wwos.nine.com.au/afl/chris-scott-lachie-neale-afl-punishment-suspended-fine-line-in-sand/f493f9a4-d102-4a19-b8f5-d0c8c08f4abc

According to AFL reporter Damian Barrett, after Scott had suggested that the Lions players, namely Lachie Neale, had been 'soft' in the opening quarter, teammate Harris Andrews responded with "not as soft as you pricks in the grand final".

Quote from: Back One Out
Richmond have benefitted from the expansion teams diluting the talent pool. It casts a shadow over their dynasty

GWS and Gold Coast hogged all the best young talent - the Giants were proved to be September pretenders, easy pickings for the Tigers. Put those same players in a decent club with history, fans and culture and they probably would've flogged Richmond. Alas, it was an artificial AFL construct who were handed a Grand Final team on a platter thanks to silly recruiting concessions. But their overpaid, spoiled young stars were no match for a proud, blue collar Victorian club with a 100 year history and 100,000 fans behind it.

The Suns basically squandered all their talent due to poor admin, poor coaching, poor club culture and a lack of player development. Many of their players were just taking the pee. Richmond were also fortunate to poach their 2 best players: Prestia and Lynch, both keys to Richmond flags

So who exactly did Richmond beat to win those flags? Who were the other good teams from 2017 to 2020?

There was a vacuum created by the AFL expansion. It didn't happen immediately in the first few years, but we saw its eroding effects after several seasons.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Tigers have also yet to match the 3 flags won by Brisbane, Geelong and Hawthorn 2013-15

There were only 17 home & away games in 2020 instead of the customary 22. The season was reduced by 22.7%
Matches were also shortened by 20%. Really, the 2020 flag should only be counted as 0.8 of a premiership to reflect this reduction.

It wasn't a true test. It was a Mickey Mouse season played under Covid restrictions for the benefit of Channel 7 and the AFL's TV rights money
You know this is true, however much you all try to talk it up... :thumbsu:

Bris 2001-03..... 3 premierships
Geel 2007-11.... 3 premierships
Haw 2013-15.... 3 premierships
Rich 2017-20*... 2.8 premierships

Theres some serious mental illness going on in some of these other supporter bases. Another 2021 premiership for the tigers will send them completely over the edge.
