Barrett must know something Tom Lynch doesn’t , as Lynch said he wasn’t going anywhere?

Read his quote
He didn't say anything about Tom Lynch directly.
He said Brisbane should be discussing him.

WHICH THEY SHOULD

Brisbane don’t have anything they can offer us anyway unless they were willing to give up next years 1st.

I know he’s only played 8 games in 2 years and tbh I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if he only played a handful of games next season too, but we’re going to have so many picks I just don’t see any value in adding another second rounder. His salary is irrelevant on our end considering we’ve got no one else to pay.

I'd prefer Lynch to stay to help lead the side, particular the forward line but 8 games in 2 years is invisible stuff. I'd entertain the idea of Lynch going to Brisbane if they had something to offer. Logan Morris would do nicely lol! How much are they willing to risk future success for now.

‘What’s the point of being half pregnant?’ Tigers urged to put Lynch on trade table as gun signs huge extension

Ben Cotton
Fox Sports
October 11th, 2024

Kangaroos legend David King has called for Richmond to embrace an all-out rebuild and add Tom Lynch to its host of stars on the trade table.

The Tigers are among the busiest teams this trade period, with Jack Graham, Liam Baker (to West Coast), Shai Bolton (Fremantle) and Daniel Rioli (Gold Coast) all on the move in an exodus set to land Richmond a plethora of draft picks.

It comes as Noah Balta has recommitted to the Tigers on a seven-year deal until 2032, joining GWS’ Sam Taylor, Western Bulldogs’ Aaron Naughton, Port Adelaide’s Connor Rozee and St Kilda’s Max King in having the longest contract in the AFL.

But while Balta is locked into the Punt Road rebuild under Adem Yze, King thinks the Tigers should extract trade value for Lynch, who turns 32 later this month and has been marred by injuries in recent years, while they can.

“You talk about Baker, Graham, Bolton and Rioli (set to depart), I would add Lynch to that discussion,” King said on Fox Footy’s Trading Day.

“If the Sydney Swans or Melbourne were interested in giving something of quality — something around (pick) 15 to 22, would you look at that?

“If you’re going to get rid of them, what’s the point of being half pregnant? You either go one way or the other.”

Four-time premiership Hawk Jordan Lewis agreed that Richmond should be open to trading Lynch if it could get a top 25 pick back.

Lewis ultimately thinks the club is well placed overall, declaring “give me this type of scenario with any of the bottom teams,” despite conceding Yze’s side was in for some pain for the interim.

“You’ve got an influx of players and the ability to get players out and a whole heap of first-round draft picks ready to go. I think they’re in a brilliant position to bounce back really quickly than the norm,” he said.

“I think sides sit in that eight to 13 (range) for far too long, then they decide to cut.

“I think Richmond is in a fantastic position to really go after the draft and go after the next five years.

“If you can get a (pick) 15 to 25 for Tom Lynch, absolutely.”

The prospect of moving Lynch was disputed by Herald Sun reporter Jay Clark, who questioned how it’d impact the Tigers culturally.

“Don’t you culturally need some older bulls in the paddock? Otherwise, the younger crew, where are they listening and learning from?,” Clark posed on Trading Day.

“If you’ve got Graham, Baker, Rioli and Bolton out the door ... (Tim) Taranto and (Jacob) Hopper as the losses mount next year are looking around asking: ‘Why am I here for?’

“Isn’t Tom Lynch someone who’s crucial culturally?”

Asked if he was worried about Lynch’s body, King said: “Make him someone else’s problem.

“Look at Sydney, where did they run the ground in the grand final? What have they learned about that forward half?

“The bit three in the forward half didn’t work, they didn’t fire at all.

“I think John Longmire would be saying: ‘OK, maybe we have to do something’. Maybe they have to take a risk.

“If (Chad) Warner is to leave, next year is the year. They’d be thinking: ‘Gee, is this our last real tilt at it with this midfield and this group?’ Maybe it’s worth it.”

I honestly think with a bit of luck in injuries and some good drafting, we might get a decent bounce in the next 2-3 years.
It’s a decent defence and we saw how well Norf’s pick 2 played off the back flank in his first year, so losing Rioli mightn’t be such a loss.
The midfield is a little shallow but still has some strength in it and with a fit Lynch, Gibcus and Moz Jnr - not a great forward line but there’s some firepower.
Getting that bounce could be crucial as it helps us secure some trade and/or free agency talent by 2028 when the likes of Meatie, Lynch, Floss, Nank, Broad are likely to have finished or be finishing up.
It might actually stop us dropping back down the ladder again.
We cannot replace Lynch but through some smart drafting we should be able to cover Baker, Graham, Bolton (at least with consistency) and Rioli while putting pressure on Ross, HRS, Mansell etc to holding their spots with a wave of young talent.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Agree with most with the exceptions of:

- Forward line is poo IMO. Lynch if fit, yes. Gibcus if fit, he's not an established forward. MRJ if fit, good pressure but not enough goals. Bauer, not established but has potential, still can't see him kicking more than 30-40 goals/year max. Lefau if fit, again 30+ goals/year. Who are the smalls? Campbell? Smith? I'b be giving those two a go.

If everyone if fit (lol)

Bauer, Lynch, MRJ
Campbell, Lefau, Smith

As for the midfield again it's a question of fitness for guys like Meatball and Hopper. Taranto is a tick. Ross IMO, if fit (again), probably a tick. Hopefully McAuliffe comes good. This line up is seriously lacking in speed.

I actually think the backline is solid (Balta, Gicbus, Young, Miller, Blight, Broad for talls is OK), and we'll find guys for the wings.

We are lacking forward quality and midfield speed, which is a bad combination. It means a reduction in effective clearances, bombing the ball forward, and watching it get run back out again.

I think a small forward line feeding off 2 talls is the model. The premiership teams most recently have been built off the back off f50 pressure and forcing dump kicks. We won our first flag with just Jack in 2017. Sethh Campbell, MRJ and possibly Mansell can provide this pressure. Lynch and I think Gibcus has all the talent in the world to play key forward if he can recover from those injuries

Trading Lynch for pick 25 is near on the dumbest thing I've ever seen be suggested. Top 3 KPF in the league when fit, maybe even the best. Could win a club a flag. You don't let that go for a maybe pick, especially when he helps us so much structurally. He's our only hope of being able to play some decent football as a team with his ability to bring the ball to ground and operate up forward

Nup. Key words are the whole post. He's worth more than pick 25 and what he gives us and his teammates whenever he plays is more than anything a mid 2nd round pick is going to offer us. Unless we've all pinpointed a superstar that will slide to that pick and if not....:shh :shh
