If Lynch fails to get up for this season. He's on 85 games for us. In 5 seasons that's 17 games a year on average. When you consider how many finals we've played with him that's such a low number.

Worth every cent as he was part of 2 premierships but it's a shame there has been such larges chunks of him missing as it's a loss to us fans seeing him out on the park. He needs 50 odd games to go passed his games played at GC. It's sad to think he may not get there and finish on less games for us than GC.
Go Tigers!

Would he feel the same way as he polishes his two premiership medals?

Richmond concedes star forward Tom Lynch may not play in 2023

What the RFC website says:

Tom Lynch Injury Update

Richmond remains hopeful that Tom Lynch can return from a broken foot in the latter parts of this season but will not take any risks with the star forward.

The Club has been careful with Lynch’s recovery since he sustained the injury in the Round 4 game against the Western Bulldogs.

Richmond High-Performance Manager Luke Meehan provided further clarity on Lynch’s progress.

“The bone healing process takes time, and we want to be absolutely certain that it is right before we step up Tom’s training load,” Meehan said.

“While we remain hopeful that we can get him back at some stage later in the season, it is still difficult to put an exact timeframe on right now.

“Tom will have another scan on the fracture in a couple of weeks, giving us a much clearer picture.”

Meehan added that the Club would not risk further injury by making short-term decisions.

“He is clearly a significant player and someone with a lot of football ahead of him, so his long-term health is our priority,” Meehan added.

“Any long-term injury is frustrating, but Tom is a pro and attacking his rehab really hard, providing leadership around the group and direction for younger forwards.”

Lynch has been a durable player for the Tigers since crossing from Gold Coast ahead of the 2019 season, featuring in 85 matches and booting 192 goals.

I wouldn't say 85 games is durable but he's been quality at least

No mention of stepping his training program up a month ago and opening up the fracture again? Meehan is stuffen dud.

Scans are showing the foot is healing but it's slow and taking time to fully heal. We're still hoping Lynch plays this year. - McQualter.

Really? Stepping up his training program?

That is simply not true, very confident in saying that

But I know it doesn't suit the narrative

From Fox Footy:

“It feels like Tom Lynch is not going to get back this year,” Gerard Whateley said on AFL 360.

“The delay on his rehab, maybe a really late throw at it – but if you were hanging out for the last six weeks for Tom Lynch, that’s not happening.”

Robinson said even if Lynch could get his body right, after the star suffered a broken foot back in Round 4, he couldn’t be an automatic inclusion.

“He’s not going to be match fit – even if they do play finals Richmond, you can’t go in without hardened players,” he warned.

“It’s a real shame for Richmond.

“If they were going to be a contender this year, Tom Lynch had to play.

“He’s a gun, he’s a top 15 player in the comp and he hasn’t been able to produce anything.”

Richmond floats Curnow-esque return plan for Tom Lynch (SEN)

RICHMOND FLOATS CURNOW-ESQUE RETURN PLAN FOR STAR FORWARD TOM LYNCH

Jack Makeham
SEN
29 June 2023

Richmond is aiming for star forward Tom Lynch to make his return late in the season, regardless of whether the club makes finals.

Lynch has played just four games in 2023, suffering a fractured right foot during the Tigers’ Round 4 clash against the Bulldogs.

His absence serves as a devastating blow for a Richmond squad who has their sights set on finals, and Tigers assistant David Teague admits that the club was hoping to have Lynch back by now.

“Ideally he’d be nearly pushing for selection about now,” he told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“That was the original plan, but the progress just hasn’t happened as quick.”

However, Teague stated that he wants Lynch to return as soon as he is able, even if the Tigers are no longer in the finals hunt.

“If we can impact in finals he’ll definitely put his hand up,” he said.

“The question will probably be more around if he can get back for a game or two and we can’t make finals, then what do you do.

“They’re football players, they love playing, so if we can get him a couple of games before the end of the year, I bet he’d probably love that.”

During his time as senior coach at Carlton, Teague employed a similar strategy with Blues star Charlie Curnow.

Curnow missed the entirety of 2020 and the majority of 2021 with a knee injury, however returned to play four games late in the ’21 season, despite the Blues being well out of finals contention.

“The psychology around it, (Curnow) played a couple of VFL games too, his form wasn’t quite there, he wasn’t quite back but we wanted him to know that his body was ready and capable of handling AFL,” Teague said.

“He competed, we know Charlie competes well, and he wasn’t at his best, but I think it gave him a lot of confidence to attack the pre-season and the following year he came out and won the Coleman.”

Lynch’s season is a far cry from his dominant 2022, in which he kicked 60 goals and finished behind Curnow in the Coleman Medal race.

McQualter said Lynch is out of the moon boot. Still optimistic that Lynch will play this season but don't know when. Tom's got to build up his running over the next month and we'll see how he goes and take it from there.
