Magpies won’t get “cute” during Tigers clash says Buckley

By SEN
25 July 2018

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley says the Magpies won’t be getting “cute” with match-ups and structure in this Saturday’s clash with Richmond.

With some projecting the Pies and Tigers could clash in a late September blockbuster in this season’s finals series, Buckley has confirmed potentially hiding or trialling certain match-ups isn’t on the agenda.

“I don’t think we are in a position to be too cute with that and we won’t be,” he told SEN’s Whateley.

“We will play the game on its merits and we will continue to tip into what we think works for us.

“We have said it consistently, whether we are coming up against Richmond or Sydney the week after or Brisbane the week after that, we will continue to look at us and to look at our strengths and how we can apply that against any opposition.

“We won’t be too cute about projecting too far forward.”

Buckley also confirmed Steele Sidebottom and Mason Cox are certain starters for the clash.

The clash between the top-of-the-table Tigers and the third-placed Magpies is the match of the round, with Hardwick wary of the improvement the Pies have added to their game since their last clash earlier this season.

"They've been terrific. I remember after we played them in round six, I thought they were an outstanding side then," he said.

"We took some things we thought they were doing really well, we looked at those and added a few of those dynamics to our game as well.

"Bucks is coaching them really well and they're playing really well, they're really tough to beat, they've got a great system in place and they play that system really well.

"It's going to be an incredible challenge for us to try and beat them but we certainly look forward to that, there are some things in our game we look forward to challenging ourselves against and seeing how the game pans out."

De Goey didn't look like getting near it last time on Grimes but in saying that handy out although it would nice to beat them with no excuses.

Surely we're now beyond the days of being scared of playing against full-strength line-ups.... :shh

Agree with that. Would prefer JDG to line up for them.

Would rather play them full strength so we don’t have to our up with their crap about having injuries.

I don’t know. I made the mistake of venturing to the footy boards on BigFooty and apparently they’re a 40 point better side with their outs back in.

Would love to play them in the finals and fist them without lube for the third time in the same season.

Can Collingwood catch Tigers and flag their grand intentions?

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/can-collingwood-flag-their-grand-intentions-against-richmond-20180726-p4zttl.html

The more the media pump up the Pies, the sweeter it will be when we deflate them by giving Collingwood another reality check :yep.

Beating Collingwood with no excuses is impossible.

So apparently no prior opportunity doesn’t apply if you’re wearing yellow and black?
