Hang on.

So the AFL is essentially offering compensation to a club who dumps their contracted player after they have mismanaged the crap out of their TPP to the point of basically breaching it, provided at least one other club is prepared to pay it?

Sounds bad. Worse than FA compo.

Clubs should suffer in their jocks if they have agreed to pay their players too much money.

Ah, the annual moving of the goal posts!   Its usually a sign that the Sydney Swines want to do something dodgy!       :help

Nope - Gold Coast and GWS.

Fremantle's Darcy Tucker has settled on North Melbourne as his preferred new home, joining Dockers teammate Griffin Logue as wanting to play at Arden Street.

I can confirm that [Gold Coast's] Brayden Fiorini has chosen Collingwood as where he wants to play in 2023. #AFLTrade

“GWS is the most likely, but Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda and Geelong are all showing interest in Meek.

Did we have interest in Narkle last year or was that just media speculation?

Quinton Narkle (Geelong)

“Quinton Narkle, his management are in talks with multiple clubs.

“The Cats say he’s a required player, but he has no contract, he’s not playing.

“If there’s a suitor there, Quinton Narkle will definitely be playing for someone else next year.”

This may come in handy in our quest to get Hopper.

Clubs allowed to ‘salary dump’ in a major change to AFL trade rules

The AFL is in the process of informing all clubs of the change in policy which will see clubs able to trade out players on large contracts for minimal draft pick return as long as the other clubs takes over the player’s contract.

Clubs also have the option to do things like bundling an attractive early draft pick with a highly paid player in a trade for just a lowly pick as a way of getting the player’s salary off the books.

So we could now get Hopper for either pick 30, a future 2nd, or a player swap?

Not sure why we would be chasing another ruckman unless an existing one is on the way out?

Emerging ruckman Nick Bryan is on Richmond’s radar. As Richmond are prepared to include Ivan Soldo in the Hopper/Taranto deal, they want to bolster their ruck stocks. #Richmond #AFLTrade

Lloyd Meek has nominated Hawthorn as the club he wants to join however Fremantle are eager to keep him at the club. Meek is contracted for next season.

Sounds like yes, as long as the TPP squeeze is so tight that GWS basically has to dump him. Article doesn't say anything about where the draft picks would land though but you'd think there's a secret (discretionary) formula like FA comp.

I think we had a very mild interest.

He actually gets a reasonable amount of ball when his game time is higher but it's often low - you'd wonder if he doesn't have a big tank.

I'd consider taking him on if he's cheap - which he probably will be.

But ultimately I don't see the point given that RCD couldn't get a game.

Pass bigtime, tank not big enough and no left foot.

Hearing the Taranto deal is progressing well. Hopper is the more complicated one.

I wouldn’t be upset with just Taranto. The interesting one for me is GCS are keen to offload Bowes for salary cap and also willing to throw pick 7 in as well. I don’t think we can entertain that prospect since we need to make sure Taranto and the future is sorted (Bolton and sonsie for example) but jeez, throwing in a top 10 pick is a pretty wild sweetener
