Tigers’ burning question: What reception will Tim Taranto get?

Every first meeting against your old side is daunting, and that comes around this week for Tim Taranto. The Richmond recruit, who has been in sparkling form, will become the latest former Giants player to return to his old stomping ground in Sydney’s west. Giants Coach Adam Kingsley, who he himself will be taking on his former side, has plenty of intimate knowledge of many players and staff and has flagged Taranto will be a player the Giants will try and contain after his best on ground performance against Port Adelaide last week. The attention and sideshow off the field and away from the immediate action will be of interest after Taranto’s decision to depart after a 114-game career at GWS. How will the crowd reception be and how much will his former teammates get stuck into him? And for Richmond’s sake, how will Tim handle the attention and focus on building again after one of his best performances of his career?

New Tiger Tim returns to familiar territory
It might have had all the hallmarks of being 'one of those days' for Tim Taranto upon his return to Giants Stadium, when he was caught holding the ball from a rundown tackle in the game's opening 60 seconds. But from there, the ex-Giant handled himself well in familiar territory. Having requested a trade to Richmond after 114 games in the orange and charcoal of Greater Western Sydney last off-season, Taranto was met by a smattering of boos from the Giants faithful. But he continued his prolific season amid the jeers, amassing 35 disposals to go with nine clearances and a goal.

35 disposals (22k, 14h, 12c, 23u, 58.3% eff.)
4 marks
5 tackles
9 clearances (3 centre clearances)
3 inside 50s
630 metres gained
2 intercepts
6 score involvements
1 goal
89% time on ground

'Classy and respectful': Tim Taranto lauded as Richmond claims 'weird' thriller against GWS Giants

Richmond star Tim Taranto has been lauded for his class after playing a starring role against his old side in a thriller.

Taranto was once again among Richmond's best, tallying 36 disposals and a goal against the side that picked him No.2 overall in the 2016 draft, and was understated in his celebrations after the siren out of respect for his old team.

"Weird game, but it was a good game to watch, I reckon. Fans would've loved it," Taranto told Fox Footy.

"Each quarter was different I reckon. They played their way in the second, we got back in the third and it was probably them in the fourth … Just happy we won."

Taranto's coach Andrew McQualter echoed his star man's sentiment about the "weird" call.

"I spoke to Tim about it pre-game today that it's a bit weird to play against your former club to begin with," he said.

"He gives 100 per cent every week for the team, and we got that again from him today.

"It's just a bit weird, particularly when you know all those guys. It'll take a few times for him to be settled against them, but I was just rapt that he was able to perform and get the win."

Been huge all year and fair dinkum you could argue  getting him has cost us dearly as far as draft goes. I can say that because we would not have won the few games we have with out him.
