Andy using North as an example is counterproductive to your point. They have been crap and playing for draft picks for how many seasons now and all of that to finish 17th.

I absolutely hate this notion that we need to finish last to properly start this rebuild. Like the difference between pick 1 and 2 is going to be the difference. Notice that the 3 players you mentioned for north, none of them were pick 1…..sheezel, LDU and wardlow all went at picks 3-4.

Tanking is loser talk and creates a horrible standard and environment that can set clubs back a decade.

What’s done is done now. We’ll have pick 1 and for everyone’s sake I well and truly hope that whoever is taken at that pick ends up being the clear standout from the rest of the draft.

Yes Norf have been crap for years but they are starting to see the fruits of the high draft picks they have had in recent years.

Cotchin and Dustin (picks 2 & 3) were instrumental in our dynasty.

You can use high picks to rebuild if you nail them.

Ofcourse high draft picks are essential and we need them badly.

But the narrative is we need pick 1 and if we had finished with pick 2 then it would have been a failure and imo that’s just not true at all.

I get your point, but my view is that we're not challenging from the bottom 4 regardless, so we might aswell finish bottom and get pick one. Then all our later picks are one spot higher too.

I dont agree with all the talk along the lines of oh well this year pick one may as well be pick 5. it is a nonsense.
If im wrong and the MEDIA LOL are right then if we as a club are not trying to split pick one into say pick 4 and 8 then we are not doing due diligence. This to me is the only advantage pick one gives us. I think it is splitable.

There are two  kids there id like to get my hands on before anyone gets a look at em.

A couple of simple sliding door moments.

1/ We manage to split #1 for 4 and 8 as an example. Me i want Smillie im happy to keep #1. But for the sliding door moment 4 and 8 it is. we may even need to add something.

We trade Dan Rioli to Dumwit for picks 6 and 20.

We trade Baker plus pick 33 to Freo for 12 and 25.

We get compo for Graham lets say pick 40.

We then bundle up 39, 51, 57, and 64  or some variation of this for a top 20 pick to a club who needs those picks.

It would leave the following picks.

4, 6, 8, 12, 19, 20, 21, 40,41, 72.

Not as mad as it seems imo. If its a real deep draft we could then look at the last 4 picks for future picks and strengthen our draft hand for the following season.

Seriuously Tiges! You could see that happening from a mile out. Just allow LDU to waltz out the front of the stoppage and kick the goal  ::).

The lack of basic defensive discipline does my head in  :banghead.

Adem again.

Hopper and Taranto are not the answer going forward. Must be the least dynamic midfield in the comp. Just look at difference to north melb.

Pace and explosive power totally lacking always has been well since the demise of Dusty.

Dow, Prestia, Graham lol, Taranto, Hopper Dusty   it doesnt get any slower than that its been a problem for years.

David King on Fox Footy's First Crack was critical of Yze's coaching by playing Prestia, Taranto and Hopper at the same time in the midfield and not mixing it up enough with others such as Bolton, Baker and even Dan Rioli.

Prestia 2 effective kicks from 10.
Taranto 4 effective kicks from 11.
Hopper 3 effective kicks from 8.

King pointed out that Baker won 2 centre clearances from the 6 times he was at a centrebounce yet in the last quarter he wasn't used.

No Bolton trade?

I wonder if both Baker and Bolton want Freo for some success.

They have picks 8, 13, 16 and 25 and it won't be enough IMO. Maybe a future pick as well given 25 will be the last uncompromised draft.

Eagles have 3 and 23. Not enough for Bolton again but if they were silly enough to give us 3 + F1 I'd be inclined to give them Bolton and pay a bit piece of his wage to make them do it.

Probably because they’re all leaving

Great post because it’s facts.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Exactly.

Honestly sick of the dribble about loser mentality.

We are losers, period. We deserve the spoon.

If we want to get the club into contention again then we need to bring talent in. The best way to do that is by drafting. So we need the best draft hand.

FFS people just take a knee for 3 more games. The season ended months ago.

Even aside from all the sooking here, you think the players are going to put their balls on the line over the next few weeks? F to the no. They will jog around, take their money, try to avoid injuries etc. Just hanging for their summer holidays and some trade offers (for a few of them) so staying healthy and playing bruise-free footy to some extent is going to be their top priority, and no amount of coach or CEO chatter is going to change that.

All I’m stating is that the obsession with pick 1 over pick 2 is being severely severely overstated and I’ve provided evidence from past drafts to support this.

All I’m getting in return is pretty much pick 1 is higher than pick 2 so it’s better, well duhhhh.

And please, gives us all the power in the PSD. Again there has been a very very select few cases where a player nominating for the PSD doesn’t go exactly where he wants, they can just prenegotiate their contract to ensure only their desired club takes them. There’s also only very few occasions were a player has left their current club high and dry to get to their preferred one for nothing in the PSD.

Again, what’s done is done. We will finish bottom because we are the worst side in the league and will be ‘rewarded’ with pick 1 for it. Just don’t tell me it’s the b all and end all of a rebuild without any evidence to back it up.

I would split that pick 1 for 2 good picks inside the top 12.
