What worries me is there is no guarantee that the draft picks will be as good as those players who have been traded and further even if they are as good there is no guarantee they will stay long term. Horne Francis is the perfect example. A struggling club struggles to retain talented youth and to attract talented free agents. I hope my fears are baseless

Sydney have an academy that gifts them talented players.

It’s not a fair comparison. 

Most clubs need to bottom out to secure elite talent.

I am certain we haven’t tanked and based on the exodus won’t need to tank over the next 2 years.

I agree. We didn’t tank, we just suck. Talent wise I still think our list was far better than what we finished with but the boatload of injuries plus what I’d call a lack of motivation from the senior players won us the spoon. Don’t think it will get worse, because how much worse can you get than a 2 win season, but looking like bottom 4 at a couple of years, then with good drafting we should start to gradually make our way back up

But I am peeved at those wanting out, especially Dan Rioli and Shai Bolton. Both signed huge contracts when the going was great and now things are crap they want out. They and the media can use any excuse they like but to me at least it's a poor reflection on them.

I get that it is a business but they are, to me at least taking the easy way out.

But seeing they don't want to be there, don't let the door hit you on the way out

I have absolutely no issues with the players.

The game has changed. I'm glad they are contracted and have decent currency. Look at Jack Macrae. Genuine top 10 player in the comp. Currency is shot now. Clayton Oliver the same, currency is shot. a number of salary dump trades to make way for lost management decisions. These boys are leaving when we are 18th with them and their current is at it's highest. We are very lucky here and need to make most of it.

Yes the draft has risk but what is almost certainly is keeping these guys and them leaving for FA for less or being traded for peanuts like Jack Macrae in a few years. The stroke rate is so much better now days though, not many first rounders don't end up playing a decent amount of footy. Our missed in our dynasty era, we forget those players couldn't get a game in best 22 to develop, won't be an issue for 2024 crop.

Let the first rounders rain.

Rioli is the big loss from a rebuild perspective. Baker too.

Both can be forced to honour their contracts though, similar to Papley.

As for the games leaving the club, well Dusty + Pickett + Grimes all retired and Graham IMO kinda sucks. The only 3 are the ones trading out.

Happy for Rioli Bolton  Baker and Graham  to go because we are not playing finals even if they stay. Whats the point of a mid table finishnext year and we dont have a shedload of top 20 picks.

These blokes going at this point in time is perfect for us we should thank them. There is only one proviso it will be very painful if we do not get our picks right  2004 all over again.

Their curency at their age is only going to decline and we are with or without them going to have low finishes for the next 3 or 4 seasons.
