Brian Royal gave a hint in his review of Peterson when he said Carl needed to realise he was in the AFL now and not back home.

There's a rumour on the Hawk's BF board that Carl will train with them to be picked up as a rookie.

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9399822&postcount=11

richo told me the tigers want to rookie him cos he needs more time

but can a player who has been on an afl list be rookied?

wasnt pods unabled to be rookied cos he was on the skunks list for a year ???
That rule is only for mature rookies. Pods was too old (older than 22/23) to qualify as a normal young rookie.

Provided Peterson is under 23 by the 1st January (which he obviously is) then any club can rookie him. If the Hawks or any other club are interested then we'd need to take him with our first rookie pick if we wanted to keep him. The payoff on that though is we may then miss out on the best kid who didn't get picked up in the National draft. Maybe that's why we are thinking of using our PSD pick on a kid so we don't miss out. Like a pseudo rookie pick which is what we did with Matty White.

QUESTION  for you mt

i thought all draftees were put on a 2 yr contract, if so , why is it that carl has been delisted after 1 yr, and does this mean we have to pay him out for his second yr?
 ???

Yep I believe we have to pay him out and his 2008 salary counts towards our 2008 salary cap if he is gone for good. If he is made a rookie instead next year, he is paid according to the 2nd year of his contract (i.e. he wouldn't drop down to a rookie's salary until the existing contract expires). I think that's how it works.

Because it had nothing to do with the topic and personal slanging matches are against the site's guidelines. I've deleted all posts (not just yours Ox) in this thread that had nothing to do with Peterson. If anyone has a problem with another poster's post(s) then report it. Ps. Check your PMs.

Anyway back to the topic.

You might find that any chance of Carl being placed on the rookie list are now all over.

Its a shame Carl couldnt adjust his lifestyle to that of an AFL footballer.

That's sad and a waste of natural talent  :(. Without saying too much Bully is this due to his hand not fully recovering or something new?

I dont know the status of his hand only that he has not stayed within the guidelines that were set out to him when asked back to train.

Thanks Bully. The same thing happened with Alex Gilmour but at least this time it only cost us a late speculative pick. As I said it's a sad waste of talent.

I'd guess now it makes the choice of rookies simpler for the Club. Possibly Howat if he isn't picked up in the National draft or PSD, Silvester apparently has been told we're picking him up according to BF, and the final two spots will be out of Gazzo, Horne, Pfeiffer and McKinnon.

That's now 3 indigenous players drafted last year that have been delisted.

Do you think the AFL may investigate why this has happened?

If we had the indigenous academy already set-up, could Carl have been saved?

There were 71 indigenous players on AFL lists this year. Losing 3 isn't really alot. Carl by the sound of it was given a second chance but like Gilmour didn't take it.

Peterson is no longer training with us according to the AFL site.

Great specky on Almost Football Legends. Too bad he didn't have the mindset and commitment for AFL footy.
