Match Report Vs BullantsCoburg Tigers website
March 21, 2011Friday night Coburg played the Northern Bullants in their second last practice match before the regular season kicks off.
Coburg went into the game with no Richmond listed players as it was the scheduled week off for all AFL players.
This meant several young Coburg players again took the field and got some valuable experience at senior level mixing it with the likes of Andrew Carrazzo, Brock Mclean, Lachie Henderson, Jordan Russel and Ryan Houlihan who all played the first half for the Bullants.
The young Coburg outfit competed very well in the first half and took a 30 point lead into the main break. Ben Clifton was prominent in the midfield while Nick Lynch looked very dangerous up forward. Young David Fahey who is in his second year at Coburg, held Lachie Henderson to 1 mark in the first half also. Coburg was able to kick 5 goals to 2 in the first quarter winning several centre clearances in the 1st qtr.
During the second quarter Coburg again competed well against a quality opposition and it was great to see the likes of Willie Wheeler and Alex Mcleod in the first year out from the TAC mixing it with the likes of Brock Mclean around the stoppages. Coburg again kicked 4 goals to 2 for the quarter with Nick Lynch kicking two for the qtr.
The 3rd term saw the Bullants bounce back and outscore the Tigers 4 goals to 1, Ahmed Saad was involved in several attacks for the Bullants and ended up kicking 5 on the day. Potter spoke to his group about transition and the ability to bounce back in the last qtr.
To the young players credit they held the Bullants goalless in the last qtr and defended really well, Coburg only added 1 major for the qtr but showed the defensive intent required at the level.
Potter was pleased with the output of some of the senior players but also the young players in the group “Benny Clifton led the way in the middle of the ground and I thought Carnell looked really dangerous up forward, Luke Cartelli showed he is more than capable of playing at the level and David Fahey also performed really well. Again it was great to have 7 first year players and 5 2nd year players play at senior level, it is great for their development and some of them showed the work they have been putting in over the pre season is paying off. We still have a fair bit to work to do and we are definitely aware there is a lot of room for improvement but at the same time some very positive signs from the playing group.”

The Tigers now play Werribee in the last match of the Pre season. Forthcoming details of the game will be available as soon as possible, please check the website later in the week for details.
The Development squad played on the Saturday and if it was not for inaccurate kicking in the first half, the game would have been over but the signs were positive and hopefully these players will Develop over the season and put pressure on the Senior players.
We held on for a 7 point win but overall we were happy with the result for both games.
