Jack, as he spoke about after the game, is as much a Tiger supporter as he is/was a Tiger player  :clapping. He understood via the passion he showed what it meant to be one of us in the stands.

Thanks Jack for everything you've done for the RFC and for us supporters. Enjoy your retirement. Legend!  :clapping  :thumbsup  :bow

Such a bitter sweet day.
I was so emotional.

Remember being there the day he kicked 10 vs WCE and thinking we had our next Richo - someone to draw a crowd for a crap team.

Had no idea then we were close to a dynasty obviously and what a player he would be.

Thanks for everything mate.

There was a game against St Kilda in 2010 , we lost the game by about 40 and Jack didn’t have his kicking boots on that night - but I remember him doing things that left me mesmerised - that we had a truely elite player in our midst.  He then exploded over the next month or so .

Jack's last touch in his farewell game where he was tackled heavily by Norf's Xerri, ended up giving Jack a broken rib as well as hurting his AC joint.

Keeping ‘Dusty’, fearing ‘Dimma’, and how Riewoldt got even with his biggest critic

27/10/2023
Source: theage

As he prepares to launch his memoir, Richmond great Jack Riewoldt reflects on his time at Punt Road, a magical journey featuring premierships, drama, Dustin Martin and Ben Cousins.

Retired Richmond superstar Jack Riewoldt has opened up on the role he and his teammates played in convincing Dustin Martin to ignore a $10 million overture from North Melbourne and commit his future to Punt Road.

Riewoldt said he and teammates including Shaun Grigg played a persuasive role in convincing Martin to stay. Riewoldt started a series of phone calls between Martin’s manager Ralph Carr and celebrity agent Max Markson assessing the financial benefits and value of Martin in a Richmond guernsey compared with the Kangaroos. Martin has never explained why he stayed.

“I wouldn’t say it was pivotal or anything like that, but it made people see the commercial value in him, but the true value lay in his relationships and who he is as a person. We were willing to do everything we could to keep him.”

Ben Cousins

“It was a bizarre set of circumstances . The jungle drums were beating that he was either going to go to St Kilda and Richmond. Then we were told no. Then the senior players pushed fairly hard to say yes, and, all of a sudden, he was at the football club.

Damien Hardwick

“I didn’t really know much about Terry or him coaching prior to getting to Richmond, but he was a really great - I want to say salesman, but I don’t want to say salesman. He actually made you believe in the story, and believe in the way we were going to do things. Which is why when it worked, it really worked for us.”
