he's far from perfect but he's coming along for a 21yr old 30 gamer
shown he can play to a high standard at the level
will have his ups and downs - especially at Full Back
needs to develop his consistency like all young players but he's played more good games than poor ones this year so that's a step in the right direction
wont die wondering with this one
if we play him as a fb opposition ff will be jumping for joy. you only need look at his strengths or in this case his weaknesses to see why.

personally as a big bodied player id prefer he can defend first and provide run second. rather than run first and defense second. we have some excellent running defenders in newman deledio conca and batchelor. where we are having problems is the big blokes getting hold of us.
i hope people arent  suggesting rance can do the role of these blokes. yep he provides some run but people have been telling me for yrs now so does mcguane.
one or two decent games does not make a player surely by now richmond people of all people have learnt this harsh lesson. and of course i expect more vitriol from the defenders of all things mediocre.
congrats alex on a good game now do it again and again and again.

Steve Milne turned him inside out in a game last year..
he cannot play on a smaller nippy type forward, he isnt quick
That's a pretty ridiculous mismatch

still a ridiculous and ignorant mismatch
milne is small and nimble and burns every one off, one of the best modern day small fwds and one of the best in history

milne more agile and nimble yes , but i bet if they did a 50 or 100 mt sprint rance would beat him

rance is not slow, FACT

alexs pace is nothing special  he doesnt have the closing speed of say dylan grimes.
dont get me wrong hes a nice mover covers the ground nicely and moves well but he lacks that burst that i reckon most of the better kp defenders have.imo he will get caught out on the lead regularly. his body work atm is not good enough either these are just two reasons why i dont think he should ever be played at fb and left one out.

Thanks Claw.
And you are also right about Grimes too, great closing speed.

Grimes is a footballer.
Rance is an athlete.

what does a fb in the modern game have to have.and im talking a well rounded fb someone who can be relied upon to take on and nullify the slower but powerful strong marking power forwards. or be able to take on the quick on the lead ffs or be able to take on and beat a combination of these things.
i think  the basic ingredients are in no particular order strength, pace or closing speed, agility good players will try and turn you inside out.   a damn good reader of the play to nullify and know when to go and know when stay.and a good decision maker when you get it, and strong in the air as well as one on one..theres a fair bit you want in your mdern day fb and if they lack in areas you want them with strengths to compensate.

to me as a fb rance lacks in a few of the critical areas.im not sure he has the strengths to compensate.

Love him.

Showing MASSIVE improvement.

Critics should pipe down and get behind him because he could just end up an absolute ripper.
