Tigers' development boostRichmond has appointed David Newett as a player development coach and senior coach of its VFL affiliate Coburg.
Newett was a development coach at North Melbourne for the past two seasons, following a distinguished playing and coaching career, predominantly in Tasmania.
In 2005, Newett won the William Leitch Medal for the best player in Tasmania’s State League, while playing with Glenorchy.
Then, as playing coach of Glenorchy, he guided the team to runner-up in 2006 and the premiership in 2007.
While attending university in Adelaide in 2003, where he gained a human movement degree, Newett won the SANFL’s reserve-grade Magarey Medal, playing for the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles.
Newett also held a key role with the Tasmanian Institute of Sport for several years, as an Athlete Career and Education consultant.
Former Hawthorn player Tim Clarke will be Richmond’s other development coach in 2010.
Clarke, 27, played 96 games and kicked 39 goals for the Hawks in a career spanning eight seasons (2001-08), highlighted by three top-10 finishes in the club’s Best and Fairest award (2004-06).
In 2009, Clarke joined Coburg as a player and midfield coach, making an instant impact with his professionalism and leadership qualities.
Clarke, who has been completing an MBA at Monash University, is the son of former Geelong star, David Clarke.
Richmond’s player development manager in 2009, Tim Livingstone, will head up the Tigers’ bolstered development program next year.
Livingstone, 42, played eight senior games for Richmond in 1992-93 and is highly regarded by the Tigers for his work in the development area.
