Dusty pretty much hasn't raised a sweat all year, been resting all season

I tend to agree. This year we have helped him limp to 300. He has not been very good at all most games.
I actually hope one of my all time favorite tiger players has the good sense to retire if that is all he has left.

There’s a swirling rumour that he’s not playing tomorrow.

Haven't heard it or read it anywhere, so where exactly is it swirling?

Rumours are correct. Some imposter is out there today, but that's not Dusty out there.. it's just an imposter wearing no4 and resting on the field ball gazing

He wasn't fit in his 300th and clearly not fit tonight.

If you're not fit , you should not be playing. No matter who you are. Once you cross the line , you're fit.

MARTIN SUBBED OUT AS FUTURE QUESTIONED

Ben Cotton
Foxsports
30 June 2024

Tigers champion Dustin Martin was subbed out in the third quarter with a back issue after a quiet performance with just seven disposals for little influence.

Tigers coach Adem Yze flagged during the week Martin, who was quiet in his 300th game against Hawthorn a fortnight ago, could be managed out of several matches in the second half of the season as the Tigers navigate a host of short breaks between games.

Demons legend Garry Lyon suggested Martin wouldn’t make the trip to Perth next week to face Fremantle and thinks there will be questions asked of the out-of-contract 33-year old’s future.

“We heard Adem Yze speak through the week about how they’re going to have to nurse him throughout the rest of the year,” Lyon began.

“Well he came off and was subbed and looked like he had back issues. He’d had no impact on the game whatsoever.

“The great champ, the superstar and the modern day legend — his future is going to be debated and that’s just life.

“We will never know where he’s at with his body and his motivations ... he may be in a world of pain, who knows. He doesn’t look like the Dustin of old and that’s just father time.

“Father time is unbeaten and will remain unbeaten.”

Three-time All-Australian Nick Dal Santo also held concerns for Martin given how gingerly the champ was moving on Sunday.

“It’s not great, that’s the basic sign of it. Anytime you cover a Richmond game or you’re at the ground, he’s still the one you go to watch,” he said.

“You don’t ever want to see him ever moving like that.”

Martin battling back issue, injured Blues mid to be assessed

By AAP
30 June 2024

RICHMOND coach Adem Yze's hand could be forced as he manages Dustin Martin through the second half of the season after the superstar suffered back spasms during the 61-point loss to Carlton.

Martin played a role in the Tigers' second-quarter fightback at the MCG on Sunday but suffered the fresh injury concern early in the third term and had to be substituted out of the game.

The 33-year-old finished with just seven disposals in the 20.11 (131) to 10.10 (70) defeat - the lowest tally of his 301-game career.

"He just seized up," Yze said. "He tried to go back out there for one more rotation and he was just battling, so it was just pointless.

"I'm not sure if he's ever been subbed before but against a quality team like Carlton, you need 18 fit guys out there.

"So for him to put his hand up and say his back's a bit too sore is a credit to him."

Yze had already flagged resting Martin on return from the mid-season bye, with Richmond wary of short breaks leading into interstate clashes with Fremantle and Port Adelaide over the next three weeks.

Martin will be given a day off before returning to Punt Road on Tuesday for further assessment ahead of the Dockers clash at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

"Whether this is a reason why he needs to miss because he's got a tight back now - our hand might be dealt anyway," Yze said.

"If he bounces out of the game OK, there's no reason why he can't play against Freo.

"We've just got to have those discussions and think about it more than anything."

Martin battled calf problems earlier in the season and Yze said the latest setback was a "random" one.

"He probably copped a knee out there, which he wouldn't have known," Yze said.

"He's a combative player and he actually helped us at centre bounce in the second quarter, so we did miss him in the second half when he went out of the game.

"Hopefully he's OK."

The rumour was right and it goes to show how pathetic we have become under the watchful eye of that dud Meehan

“100 PER CENT”: DUSTY WILL PLAY FOR GOLD COAST NEXT YEAR, SAYS DEMONS GREAT

By Nic Negrepontis
SEN
2 July 2024

Dustin Martin will leave Richmond and sign a two-year deal with Gold Coast at the end of the 2024 season, according to David Schwarz.

Martin has long been linked with the Suns, but has always remained with the Tigers.

Damien Hardwick is now the coach of Gold Coast however and the three-time Norm Smith Medallist is out of contract at the end of the season.

Schwarz is certain that Martin will not only continue his AFL career in 2025, but will be doing so in Queensland.

“I’ll give you 100 per cent. And this isn’t 97 per cent or 98 per cent,” the Melbourne great told SEN WA Breakfast.

“100 per cent Dustin Martin will be playing at the Gold Coast next year on a two-year contract.

“You can take it to the bank. Put it in the bank right now and collect the interest. It’s done.

“You will see that he will be playing for the Gold Coast next year and I reckon you’ll find he plays the majority of home games and travel might not be a big option for him.

“I think what he brings is a bit of star factor and people through the gates and he is a great leader on the training track and on the field.

“Sometimes actions speak louder than words, but when he talks he commands enormous respect and for a young group, it’s only benefits that he brings.

“He’s got his outside life under control. He’s mature. His example is exactly what the Suns need. He brings marketing dollars, he’s got a great relationship with the coach, he knows the system and he goes up there in a playing and behind the scenes role.

“It’s just a win-win. Richmond gets a nice pick for him and he gets another opportunity and I think everybody wins in this.”

Unsure, and likely never will, but he will be a great marketing coup for GC.

He is a free agent next year anyway isn’t he??
