Walker – who was interestingly met with jeers from the Richmond faithful whenever he went near the ball – had just 11 and kicked one goal – including just three touches to his name at the main break. Comparatively, his opponent David Astbury had 18 possessions (13 to half-time) and 10 one percenters as the Crows' forward again struggled to find his feet on the big stage ...

He gets jeered because, like Adam Goodes late in his career, he’s become a flog
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

It's Dave's 100th this week  :clapping.

Started off with 17 games in his debut season (2010) but could then only manage 24 over the next 5 years (2011-2015). He was almost traded to Brisbane but stayed and in the past 3 years he's played 54 games out of a possible 60 including last year's premiership.

Go to the 1:00 mark: https://twitter.com/7NewsMelbourne/status/1121336414409330689

Astbury arrived at Punt Rd today on crutches. Dave said the swelling is coming out now and he thinks he'll be right to play to the Dogs.

Astbury rolled his ankle following a nasty landing during Richmond's Anzac Day Eve victory over Melbourne, with the 10-day break not aiding his cause to prove his fitness.

"He probably won't play," Hardwick said.

"He won't train today (Thursday). It was an incredible effort to play … the size of his ankle, he was lucky to get his boot back on.

"We had a conversation before and he's looking increasingly unlikely at this stage. It probably means he's really doubtful for the weekend's game.

"He's an important player for us – and we'll give him every chance – but it's not looking likely at this stage."

Here’s how Astbury has performed in the past three games, playing alongside Garthwaite . . .

Round 8 v Fremantle: 17 disposals, six rebound-50s, 11 marks.

Round 9 v Hawthorn: 20 disposals, four rebound-50s, 12 marks.

Round 10 v Essendon: 16 disposals, eight rebound-50s, six marks.

Astbury and the entire defence really took some time to adjust after rance went down but are looking a lot better over the past month.

He and Grimes have really stepped up which is what we needed.  I think they also work much better with Garthwaite as the extra tall.

David Astbury – 7

Continued his consistent season with another solid performance in defence. Played his role in keeping the Cats' key forwards quiet and showed desperation and poise when under pressure.

Dave has quietly gone about his business very impressively since the bye. Seemed to suffer the most initially when we lost rance and he took a bit of time but he has readjusted superbly.
