76kg's at 189 cm, light but looks like plenty of room to pack on some beef, tracking nicely for mid to upper 80kg mark with a few pre seasons in the gym, could be a nice pickup if he has the skills.

Has the skills supposively. Has huge legs so would imagine he will fill out in the upper body quite nicely. A quick goal-kicking mid. Pretty sure we need one of them.

^ sounds like he could fill out & mature nicely - skills def don't seem to be his biggest concern from all reports - and yes, we could def do with some more goal kicking mids

Good ball user by both hand and foot. New to AFL but showing some big progress! Looks very draftable. Still learning the game. Project. But has made big progress! Just keeps getting better with every game he plays and there seems to be allot of upside.

PICK 20 – Daniel Markworth (Calder Cannons)
Height: 189cm Weight: 76kg Age: 19
Medium forward/Midfielder

Lead up forward that has shown some ability to play through the midfield. Only fairly new to the game but has shown a lot this year. Was ranked no 1 for goal assists and no 4 on the goal kicking ladder in the TAC cup. Has very good pace and very clean hands. He can take a contested grab. He’s a good kick and can be quite creative. Decision making is generally ok and will only improve. Still has plenty of upside and is still learning the game. I can see him developing as a midfielder eventually with his break away pace being his weapon.

Why would we go with a project player with our first round pick who'll need 3 years to stack on the 12-14 kgs needed to play at AFL level?!  ??? Surely you go with the best available footballer with your first pick such as a Grigg based on that TAC Cup Future Stars phantom draft.

conca, batch and helbig were all around the 76-78kg mark
this markworth bloke is almost identical size to batch

Batch was 188cm, 82kg when drafted (a differential of 6 == height/10 - weight)
Reece was 185cm, 79kg (also a differential of 6)
Helbig was 185cm, 75kg (differential of 10 but he was a 3rd round pick - pick 47)

You don't risk first round picks on kids who need to put on 12-14kgs unless they are rucks/tall KPPs who are high 190s/200+cm tall.

spot on. people see project and think its a worry. The first PD one-eyed put up rates Markworth the 8th best player long term. That's what we want. Could take the best current player and end up with the 30th best in 3 years or the 30th best now who ends up being top 5 in 3 years. I know which one i'd take. 76-78kg isn't bad at all. 70kg would be a worry.

I'd take Nat Fyfe in a heartbeat.

The kid is an outside mid with elite skill and pace. We won't necessarily take him but he's hardly a risk.

batchy is still listed at 188 78 on the RFC site, and there are differing reports (like with all draftees) on markworth's weight

nope, markworth's weight is not the issue at all, he'd be into the 80 range before R1

has nothing to do with capabilities, long and short term, of playing at AFL level, debunked long ago

I would be surprised if Batch weighed only 78kgs seeing him and the way he plays but in any case he wasn't a first round pick so he's not a contrary example. IMO you don't use first round picks on mids who will need to put on 12 kgs especially when there will be safer alternatives who are real footballers available at pick 14 who don't need to learn to the basics of the game. Our recruiters in this year's draft will earn their money with our 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks moreso than our first rounder.

We've been pretty good lately. I don't think we've done that with our first pick since JON in 2005.
