AFL star abused as he leaves court
Breaking News - The Age
March 13, 2007 - 1:49PM

Aboriginal AFL star Andrew Krakouer was verbally abused as he left a Perth court by relatives of a man he is accused of seriously bashing.

The 23-year-old Richmond Tigers player and his brother Tyrone, 21, appeared in the Fremantle Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Another man, 18-year-old Elwyn-Roger Colbung also appeared with the Krakouer brothers charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm over the same incident.

Justin Robin Martin, 24, who is also Aboriginal, sustained head injuries in the incident near a hotel in Fremantle on December 22 last year.

Inside the court, lawyers for the three men requested a lengthy adjournment for the preparation of medical reports.

The matter was adjourned until May 8, but Andrew Krakouer was given leave not to appear on that occasion.

The trio's bail was renewed.

Outside the court, half a dozen of Mr Martin's relatives were waiting.

As the three accused walked to a waiting car one relative shouted: "You're a dog Andrew!"

Later, Justin Martin's aunt Rosemary Walley said her nephew was now out of hospital but the incident had taken its toll on the family.

"Justin's back on his feet, he is doing well, but he's still got internal injuries, his kidneys are not as good as they used to be," Ms Walley said.

"He's still healing, it's taken its toll, the family, I don't think, they'll never be the same again."

"Once justice is done they can get on with their lives."

Our efficient legal system at work again. It'll be six months by then before they even decide if there'll be a trial  ::). At least Krak doesn't have to attend next time when it'll be during the footy season.

I know this is a serious subject but something stuck out to me like a dog's proverbials with that article. 8)
Abuse? ;D We've got a thread on dogs and everyone loves them.
That reporter really needs to get out more and that relative needs to be more specific for the remark to cut deep. Shouting out "You're a poodle" would cut me to the quick.

(Better go back and check none were in the thread :whistle)

Miller accompanied Krak to court yesterday ....

Quote
Krakouer in court

RICHMOND Forward Andrew Krakouer was heckled by relatives of a man he is accused of bashing after he appeared in Fremantle Magistrates Court yesterday. Krakouer, 24, and his brother Tyrone, 21, were not required to plead to charges of causing grievous bodily harm to 24-year-old Justin Robin Martin, who received head injuries in an incident on December 22 last year. Magistrate Jacqueline Musk renewed bail and adjourned the case until May 8, when the men are expected to enter pleas. Andrew Krakouer, who was accompanied in court by Richmond football director Greg Miller, was given leave not to appear on that occasion because of football commitments. As the Krakouers left court, one of the victim's relatives verbally abused the footballer, shouting: "You're a dog, Andrew." DAVID DARRAGH

How did it not make the top 3 in this week's mark of the year nominations?  ???

Running back with the flight of the ball expecting the Swan player to take a easy mark and at the last second picks it out of his hands like an apple out of a tree while keeping his balance  :clapping.

I thought Krak's defensive work with his harrassing and tackling was very good against the Swans. He needed to become more involved though when we had the ball. The modern game with its short chip kicks and flooded forward lines doesn't suit crumbers like Krak.

Violence flares at Krakouer case
Jim Kelly
May 08, 2007 03:00pm
Article from: The Sunday Times

A FEUD between the families of AFL star Andrew Krakouer and a man he is accused of assaulting erupted in violence at a Fremantle Court today.

The 23-year-old forward was not required in court today but his brother Tyrone, 21, and Elwyn-Roger Colbung, 18, were due to appear to enter pleas to assault charges relating to the same incident.

The three are accused of causing grevious bodily harm to Justin Robin Martin, allegedly bashing him in Fremantle on December 22 last year.

The Martin family has previously threatened to take revenge for the attack which seriously injured the 24-year-old victim.

In court today two Martin family members, one a 26-year-old woman and the other a 47-year-old man, became involved in a confrontation with the two defendants in a waiting room.

A police officer who tried to break up the fight suffered a cut arm and was taken to Fremantle Hosptial for treatment.

Four people were charged with disorderly conduct.

The members of one family are due to appear in Fremantle Court on Monday while the other two men will appear in the same court on Friday.
