Maric's manager just said that Adelaide have asked for the compo pick but we are not prepared to offer it.

Once again the media eff up the story.

If Barrett says it, it is usually wrong :yep  :wallywink.

Our recruiting dept. should resign on masse if we were stupid enough to cough up our compo pick (which will be a top 20 pick next year) for Maric.

Am I right in thinking that the compo pick is probably on par with our first round this year? given the disparity in quality between this draft and the next? we have to keep hold of that compo! so important we keep adding youth even as we move up the ladder!

"Lenton also manages Adelaide ruckman Ivan Maric, who is seeking a trade to Richmond.

He confirmed that the Crows wanted to regain the compensation pick they traded for Richard Tambling last year.

But the Tigers have baulked at that request, instead offering their pick 37 in this year's NAB AFL Draft.

Despite the disagreement, Lenton was confident that the two clubs would come to terms.

"We're hopeful that Adelaide might look at Richmond's offer and think, 'we can use that in another trade,'" he said.

"If that's the case, hopefully Ivan can go through sooner rather than later.""

Spot on cranny. Actually when you take into account the fact that 17 year olds born b/w Jan-April are excluded in this draft (~1/3 of a normal draft's draftees), GWS having 9 of the first 14 picks and GWS last year being able to pre-list youngsters, I would argue the compo pick (approx. pick 20 in a normal draft) is probably a 'higher' pick than pick 15 in this compromised draft.

There is no way in hell our compo pick will be a top 20 pick next year.

The manager is clearly on our side. We just need to sit tight and let the pressure build up on Adelaide that they may get nothing in return for Maric if they don't accept pick 37.

In a perfect world where every club wins 4.5 games or more and no one else uses their pick, it would be Pick 19. So agreed, will probably fall around Pick 22-25 with other clubs nominating to use theirs in the stronger draft.

Just re-read the posts, I think they are saying in terms of strength of draft, our compo pick being used and giving us pick 22-25 would be the equivalent to a top 15 pick this draft. Plausible.

The compo pick is an end of first round pick. With a normal draft next year and 18 teams and taking into account priority picks next year (GWS probably won't win 4 games) then the compo pick will be around picks 20-24.

I know.

Add in clubs using their mid-first round compo picks, and the end of first round compo picks that are before ours...

No chance in hell that compo is a top 20.

Top 30.

All depends when we and they use the compo picks. They can be used anytime up to 2015. We may wait until 2013 to use it. Craig Cameron said at the fan forum two months ago we haven't decided yet as the U16s may show the 2013 draft might show it'll be stronger than 2012. Also only Geelong and Melbourne have first round and mid-first round compo picks. So our compo will be a pick around 20-25 as JVT said. In any case the whole point is it's valuable and should in no circumstances be used on a fringe 3rd-in-line 25 y.o. ruckman like Maric who we could pick up in the PSD if need be.

This whole convoluted load of bs compo pick is ...So, what picks are the ones you get to use, first round immediately after the normal first round pick of the originating team (as in the team first generated the compo pick)?
